As far as I know, all BIOS's except for the PSone's will run Japanese licensed games.

I'm sure there is nothing special about the midnight system.
It's just a 'purpleish' coloured PSX is all, but we will find out shortly I guess.

The above webpage is referring to it as "DTL-H505 aka SNES-CD is real", though that description might be nonsense. The photo of the backside does in fact seem to show a three-digit part number, but I couldn't decipher if it reads "DTL-H500" or "DTL-H505" or something else. And the photos aren't showing a "SNES-CD" anywhere; as far as I know those old "target boxes" were booted via SCSI cables, not via CDROM drives. Anyways, I am more or less believing that those photos are showing some sort of PSX prototype. Uh, or at least some kind of Sony hardware, or some weird casemodding joke.

Did anybody ever see that thing for real? Or has better photos? Or knows more about it? Or at least knows it's name, is it really DTL-H5xxsomething?

No, it's real, but I'm not sure why it's dubbed the "NES CD" because it was actually based directly off of Sony's NEWS systems. It's correct that it's a DTL-H500 though, and it would be quite interesting to open it up and take a peek inside. However, acquiring one would be out of one's reach, and good luck trying to convince someone that owns one to open it. They probably have it behind a plate of glass behind a golden velvet rope.

Who knows. In the future I may be able to get a hold of one

SCPH-1002B and SCPH-1002C? I wasn't aware of that models. But now that you are mentioning them, it seems that all european PSX versions are existing with A, B, C suffices (ie. google also finds stuff like SCPH-5502C, SCPH-7002C, SCPH-7502C, SCPH-9002C for PSX, and, the one that I already knew about, SCPH-102C for PSone).

As those suffices are used only in europe, I am still tending to believe that their meaning is just:
A = Bundled with english manual and TV modulator (though, did anybody ever buy a PSX with TV modulator?)
B = Bundled with english manual and A/V cable
C = Bundled with multi-language manual and A/V cable
Though in that case I wouldn't see a reason why they should have different bios versions (unless they have different production dates - but then you might also SCPH-1002C models with older bios than SCPH-1002B, and vice-versa).

Do you have those SCPH-1002B and SCPH-1002C part numbers on the stickers at the bottom of the consoles? Or are they only printed in manuals or packaging? My own consoles don't have a suffices, the stickers are just saying SCPH-1002, SCPH-5502, and SCPH-102. There are some PSone sticker's with suffix though, like this one http://i.ifreeads.ru/2013/08/19/125880/ ... 5223_2.jpg another special on photo is that the case has smaller feet than usually.

As far as I have knowledge, SCPH-1002 have no letter. But I use letters because the SCPH-1002 came with 3 different bios (2.0 = A, 2.1 = B, 2.2 = C).

Ah, okay, thanks for clarifying. The problem is that SCPH-1002's do have similar letters, at least on the box, such like "SCPH-1002 C": http://retroage.net/images/stories/sony ... 002_20.jpg
The "C" is supposedly for european "Continental" (non-english) boxes, which is different as your lettering. If you want to identify bios versions, better stick with the version numbers that are stored in the bios rom (eg. use "2.0" as is, instead of assigning letters to it).

EDIT: The above photo does have French, German... and English text on it though. That leaves me clueless.
Maybe comparing the original manual(s) would reveal more info about those letters...

I think the NA BIOS ROM for SCPH-7003 is exactly the same as SCPH-5501's (check the BIOS version of the two models, they match), as the dump I have has the same SHA1 hash as that of SCPH-5501. So, if possible, adding that as a file name option (SCPH7003.bin) might help usability a bit. For now, it's very simple to rename the SCPH-7003 ROM to SCPH5501.bin

To bad SCPH-5903 was never copied. With this bios we may have been able to bring VCD support too other models.

I dumped it years ago. I'll get a dump of the CD controller firmware at some point.

You can't use it to add VCD to other models, because there is additional hardware in the SCPH-5903 that other models don't have (similar to how the parallel port VCD players have extra processors). It's possible the additional hardware has it's own software that needs dumping, which is going to be much harder.

Firmware from a memory card and all the different game controllers are much more interesting to get dumped right now.
