SCPH-102 - Weird video problem

Hi,

Got a PSOne (SCPH-102) with a modchip for cheap.
Along with a loose DC jack (which I'm just working on right now along with writing the post) there is a weird problem which started to happen today.

A week ago, I plugged it in to my TV set. The video signal was just fine, nothing weird or suspicious. I couldn't get past the menu screen as my controllers were plugged into my PS2, which I couldn't reach at that moment.

Fast forward a week later... I just set up a PC with a WinTV card for capturing its video signal. I'm plugging it in and I'm getting a weird, jumping photo on the screen (the photo is in the attachment).

I've tried to change the cable, moving the console around (as there was some interference from the speakers) and even hooking up my PS2 to the PC, which worked fine.

I'm currently stuck without any idea about this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure your capture card is set to PAL50 (or it might be marked in the selectable list as "PAL-I").

I'm actually using DScaler right now for this, but I'll try VirtualDub. As I previously noted, I'm really confused that my PS2 works fine and the PSOne shows problems.

*EDIT* Nope, selecting PAL-I didn't work. It's still the same.

If you plug your PSone back into your TV, does the problem persist?

Very strange. It works fine on the TV...

Your capture card must be hard-locked to use an NTSC signal then, but your PSone is giving it a PAL signal. That's all I can think of.

The card is labelled on its RF shield as a PAL/SECAM card, and as I noted, the PS2 plugged into the same card works just fine (it's also a PAL console). I live in Europe, so I'm sure I can't have an NTSC capture card.

I come to the conclusion that the faulty side is either the computer, or the capture card.

How are you connecting the PSone to the capture card. RF or AV?

Composite (AV). Just using a standard PlayStation multi-out cable.

Okay, and what game are you booting, because it must be a PAL game.

Really I'm just lost as per why this might be happening. Try selecting a different PAL decoder method from the drop-down list of your capture card too (as seen in my first picture example under 'Virtual Dub'). By the way, you can also use VLC for opening a capture card. If that doesn't work, I'm out of diagnostic ideas I'm afraid. Clearly it's a sync issue, but where the issues lies I can't pinpoint unfortunately.

Unfortunately, I haven't got any games to try out, but the problem persists all the time, even before the Sony logo comes up on the screen (when I push the Power button, there is a jumpy and colorful portion of the screen on the bottom, it takes up around a third of the screen, it's almost like static, but colorful, and that area isn't being captured, it's more like a dead zone, the screen gets shifted up). I've tried changing various decoding standards, but they all show the same result, even SECAM does the exact same thing, only the colors are swapped unexpectedly, the screen is at the exact same position.

I won't bother you with this issue anymore, either I'll put the capture card in another PC, or just develop software using the emulator.

Can you boot NTSC discs? You might have a ONEchip modded system with PAL color mod.
That would require support for PAL 60 which your capture card might not support.

If that's the case this issue will only happen on BIOS screen and NTSC games,
your capture card should work normally with PAL games.

Ok, I've tried burning a PAL copy of Spyro and booting it up. It seems to work fine when it boots.
