Board revision by serial number

Hello

Is it possible determine the motherboard version by model + serial number when is not possible open the console?
Ex.: SCPH-1001 with serial number starting with 8, I found PU-8, 1-658-467 ending -23 and serial starting with 7, I found board revision ending -22.
Somebody can tell about some serial number starting with 6 and 5?
Where can I find IC102 NTSC U/C ROM with 40pin?

Without opening? You could check the Kernel ROM's CRC, the older versions should have 40pin chips (albeit that's still unconfirmed for must U/C chips):

If you do only have photos, maybe the serial numbers on the sticker could give some hints, or maybe not. I've launched a similar quest for finding the newest PSone models some years ago, and it did envolve stuff like like speculating on the meaning of the serial number, sticker font, ventilation holes, amd licking and smelling at the conole's rubber feet (although I am not sure if any of that can provide fault-proof mainboard identifications):

What I do have is a PAL console with old mainboard:
Sticker: SONY, SCPH-1002, PAL, 220-240V 50Hz 12W, C5663034, CLASS 1 Laster PRODUCT, 3-066-408-01
PCB: PU-8, 1-658-467-11
IC102: 40pin SONY, M534032C-05 JAPAN, 5402302-A

But, why would you want to find a 40pin ROM chip?

I think the PU-8 early board should be found in the lower serial numbers from SCPH-1001 NTSC U/C consoles, like your serial 5663034 right?
Those who have this consoles with serial starting with 5 or 6 could know it for sure.
I would like to change the region and menu language of a SCPH-1000 (NTSC/J). I see the only way to do this is to replace the IC102 40pin from 1001 PU-8 early board console.
