The Xplorer FX had a bigger EEPROM than the other Xplorer (2 megabit) models, and allowed some more useful features while using CAETLA such as SPU RAM dumping.
I am not too familiar with the Gameshark hardware in all honesty.
All I know about the Gameshark line is it is a nightmare to get CAETLA running correctly on it because you need to build a FreeWing PCB for a Comms Link

PlayStation Development PC: Windows 98 SE, Pentium 3 at 400MHz, 128MB SDRAM, DTL-H2000, DTL-H2010, DTL-H201A, DTL-S2020 (with 4GB SCSI-2 HDD), 21" Sony G420, CD-R burner, 3.25" and 5.25" Floppy Diskette Drives, ZIP 100 Diskette Drive and an IBM Model M keyboard.

Well, I never had Xplorer FX before, only GS PRO.
I never used the comm link, only parallel port to find my own cheats. It worked fine back there, I still need to test with Win7 x64.
