Amateur made RPG game project
Hello,
I have a J-RPG project and I really want to create it first on the Playstation 1.
The thing is, I have a small "one person" company and creating games fulltime (and part on retro machines), so the aim of this project is to sell it as a CD in box for €15 to €20 (just like I did for my puzzle game Yopaz IceStar)
Seeing how many Yopaz I've sold on the PS1, I'm a bit worried about how many people would actually buy a game on the PS1 (less than 10 for Yopaz)
So before starting this huge project I'm asking on various forum if you would be interested in purchasing a game like this RPG for the Playstation (in the same type of packaging than Yopaz, ie: standard CD case, colour printed cover and CD on a Black CD-R)
Due to the PS1 CD security still not defeated till today, the game will require a mod chip or a boot cd.
The game will feature a story, several city to visit, an unusual battle system, but do not expect an RPG with 20 hours of gameplay! It's the work of only one person.
Please be honest in your vote, thank you
EDIT:
My RPG "Zia and the goddesses of magic" is now available for the Playstation 1 !
Order the game here on my website: http://onorisoft.free.fr/retroshop/ps1.htm

no offence but coding games for a 20 years old system and expecting them to be best-sellers is quite irrational, it's normal to have extremely limited amount of sold copies as is your case... then again that's your callOrion_ wrote: Seeing how many Yopaz I've sold on the PS1, I'm a bit worried about how many people would actually buy a game on the PS1 (less than 10 for Yopaz)

I don't expect to be best seller, but I've sold more than 100 copies of several games for the Atari Jaguar console, and same for the Atari Falcon computer, so yes it is possible, the only thing we need is people to support that kind of projectYagotzirck wrote: no offence but coding games for a 20 years old system and expecting them to be best-sellers is quite irrational, it's normal to have extremely limited amount of sold copies as is your case... then again that's your call
you can look at the number of produced and sold homebrew games for the Atari 2600, Nec PC Engine/Turbo grafx, dreamcast, megadrive, NES...
but it seems like nobody is interested in the ps1

well yeah, unlike other systems sadly the psx always lacked of a solid developers/supporters community, which is kinda weird considering it's one of the most successful consoles ever sold...

I'm interested in a 3D car smash em' up racer like Destruction Derby.
I would be happy to work with you _Orion on it when I can
Also, your website (onorisoft.free.fr) seems to be down...

I already posted the list of game I'm interested in.
I'm not interested and I don't have the skill to make a 3D car game.

I would love to help on just about any ps1 project.
At the moment I'm still figuring out the programming bits of ps1 development, but decades of RPG experience have endowed me with various game-mechanic reasoning abilities.

2 years later, my RPG is ready, and I see on the poll result, only 5 people would buy it.
considering the success of the PS1, it's disappointing that so few people are interested by indie PS1 games
The game should be released by the end of August.

(sorry I can't make the 'youtube' tag working on this forum)

I'm impressed that you worked on this project consistently for about two years and released it at the end. It's good to know that PSX dev. is still alive. I cannot buy your game atm but I would like to do that someday in the future.
looks great, I will buy this one and any of your future releases.
