Howdy Folks,
I imported many Japanese PSXs and need them to be in working order...
I have modchiped hundreds of PS1/PS2s a long time ago...But never knew that NTSC/J consoles have additional BIOS check ups...
I have given PSNee a go on a PAL 9002 some 5/6 years ago but never got it to boot, not sure what I was doing wrong.
I have some questions now:
- Does PSNee patch the NTSC/J BIOS and boots discs from all regions on these consoles problem free?
- Which boards should I get for this job? I bought a few 16Mhz ATMEGA328P and waiting for them to arrive, Will they do the job?
- How do I program them? Very little info on that. I read somewhere that it shouldn't be dont via USB??? I got a ISP AVR Programmer for ATMEGA and not sure if this combination will work. If not what should I get?
Thank you,
PSNee on NTSC/J Consoles

You can go get the PSNeev8 normally it is compatible, the wiring diagram is identical to the V7 there are just the pins for the bios which are specific.
I am working on a V8 which accepts the ATiny 25/45/85 and the 32U4, I am finalizing the tests, and I should still update the documentation, before moving everything to the standard github, for the moment the development version is available here

Hi! PSNee can patch the NTSC/J BIOS to boot discs from any region without problems. ATMEGA328P boards will be suitable, and use the ISP AVR programmer to program them for best performance.

You can use the ATMEGA328P 16MHz microcontroller, compatible with the PSNee firmware to pass the regional BIOS test. Your ISP AVR programmer can be used to flash the firmware, avoid using USB to ensure stability.
