Repairing a SCPH-1110 (PSX Joystick/FlightStick)

Post by chris-red » August 6th, 2016, 1:36 am

Hi Guys, I'm trying to repair some hardware and I figure this a good place to ask.

I love retro gaming and the PSX was my first love. Recently I discovered the flightstick exists some of my favorite games as a kid were Colony Wars and Air/Ace Combat. I bought one on ebay cheap and have found it is slightly knackered.

First off Colony Wars the the game keep going to the pause menu because the controller has been disconnected. It's unplayable.

Air Combat is better however after a certain amount of random buttons will be 'pressed' and it ends up being unplayable.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice for trying to repair it. I have soldered years ago and my plan was to buy one of those cheap maplins kits to practice on then have a go at replacing all the capacitors and maybe the lead from a donor controller.

Also I have an Xploder cheat cart, and was wondering if anyone can link me to some information of how to connect it to a modern PC.

Thanks,
Chris

Take it apart and check the continuity from each pin to each pad on the PCB inside. As for the Xplorer/Xploder, there are a few detailed posts on this forum, so just use the search function and look around :)
