Hello! Some questions from a n00b :D

Post by a-cosmic-jaw » September 17th, 2024, 11:27 pm

So, I'm really hot for a PixelFX equipped PSX! I found https://www.ebay.com/itm/116327158452?_ ... _ZA&edge=0 (tad bit expensive, but what to do) add online and since I have a couple of questions regarding dev I turn to this forum!
  1. Would this console work in a PAL EU country?
  2. Since the PixelFX installation utilises the serial port hole in the chassis, is it possible to solder back the serial on some cable and have it protrude through the back?
  3. Will the PixelFX (or other mods of this unit) interfere with the serial and parallel ports for development?
  4. For the ultimate development experience with step debugging if possible, what equipment to use?
Thank you in advance for any and all answers!

The PSX from the US or Japan uses 110V, while Europe uses 220-240V. You'll need a step-down transformer to safely use the console.

Japan is 100v. The PSX's from Japan even state as much, they were only designed for 100v input. Even on 120v (my home is technically 123v), does generate a bit more heat out of them so I wouldn't lump Japanese and US consoles as the same.
PSXDev has a bot problem. If you see a random post with a stray pixel, don't click that pixel, it might be a hidden URL. REPORT it and be absolutely sure to mention where and how you found the hidden URL. Sometimes it's not in their sig, but hidden in quoted posts. If the report is declined, push back if you are 100% sure.

If I eventually want to use original development tools like Net Yaroze or PSY-Q kits, will this PixelFX modded PSX be compatible, or should I seek an unmodded unit?

I mean I don't mind volunteering, but something tells me with how aggravated I've been in my reports is not going to win me any favors to do so.

But if they did consider it, I am willing to put my money where my mouth is and volunteer to keep it clean. Currently I work from home so I'm often just here at a computer at my bench, so most bots wouldn't last more than a few hours, and if really busy, more than either my morning or night. Either way they wouldn't be staying for months that's for sure, just 12 hours at most. (And do have experience with phpBB, previously as an admin, but I just need the ability to delete bot posts, and ban the accounts for doing it. I don't give bots second chances, because there's simply no human behind it, you're scolding a machine that'll just do it again).
