Re: [DOWNLOAD] PlayStation 1 BIOS Collection

Yes, it's SCPH-5903. The (re-)naming is really confusing. If you check the above posts... smf originally called it scph5903.bin with CRC32 specified as 446ec5b2. then smf renamed it to ps-22(c) and uploaded it, with same CRC32 as above. and then gradius renamed it to 5903.bin and compared it to ps-...

Re: SCPH-5903 PSX VCD Main/Sub-board Images

Question would be, what values does one get returned for GetID command when inserting VCDs into the disc drive? Can somebody test that? You won't need a SCPH-5903 console for that test, you could use any PSX model you have, and you would only need VCD disc. I don't know if I have any pressed VCD di...

Re: SCPH-5903 PSX VCD Main/Sub-board Images

Yes, per-pixel video source switching won't work. Certainly not if it's switched by the HC05 PortF.3 output. And even if it would use some switching method: It would screw up the NTSC color clock of the composite signal (the daughterboard is probably generating the color clock from the 28.636MHz os...

Re: SCPH-5903 PSX VCD Main/Sub-board Images

Something would need to decode the colors It would just need to be fed the r/g/b and output a signal based on whether (for example) there is blue and no red and no green. It's cheap to do, but not as cheap as the actual design. It was only a guess :-) That also means that my theory about the 6230 i...

Re: SCPH-5903 PSX VCD Main/Sub-board Images

And I don't think it's chromakeyed - I can't see any sign of the PSX video being fed into the VCD board, so my guess is that once it switches over to VCD mode everything (including the OSD) is generated by the Video CD controller chip. The PSX video wouldn't need to be fed to the VCD board for chro...

Re: SCPH-5903 PSX VCD Main/Sub-board Images

The 44pin ROM chip is funny, even bigger than the 40pin ones. The first 512k is mostly the same as the standard v2.2j, with just a few changes patched in to call code in the second 512k. Probably to avoid any compatibility issues. IIRC I had to dump it using a boot cd and memory cards because the x...

Re: [Hardware Mod] NTSC/PAL reference oscillator mod for PU-

The NTSC clock input has to be present, or the chip simply won't work - I suspect this is also the clock for the majority of the internal logic, and the only thing the PAL clock does is generate the subcarrier frequency and PAL video timing. I suspect that the chip defaults to NTSC and without the ...

Re: [Hardware Mod] NTSC/PAL reference oscillator mod for PU-

This is true for some NTSC retail consoles, too - I've had a couple of SCPH-1001s that would simply lock up when you selected PAL mode (they stopped generating VSYNC). If you look at the back of the PU-8 board where the oscillators are (same place that's in the photos I posted above) there are two ...

Re: [Hardware Mod] NTSC/PAL reference oscillator mod for PU-

Hi, from what i read PAL console will display full colour when using RGB SCART cable without need to add extra oscillator or colour correction module for NTSC Games. Is that true? If yes how is the framerate? Does it dropped by 1% too? :shrug Yes, the timing is slightly wrong if you play NTSC games...

Re: [Hardware Mod] NTSC/PAL reference oscillator mod for PU-

The other nice thing is that now it runs at the correct speed in NTSC mode (a PAL console in NTSC mode with the original oscillator has line and frame rates that are about 1% slow - not much, but annoying once you know about it). It's more than annoying, if you play Japanese DDR games on an PAL con...

Well now you know that the result of your test was the same result as when I did it by mistake. I fixed mine by replacing the capacitor, I suggest you do the same.

tldr; Don't plug Japanese or US PlayStations into 230V because you will blow up the big capacitor on the power supply.

The post you quoted told you exactly what to expect but you did it anyway.

Re: Need help on looping XA audio tracks

Even when XAID = *(unsigned short *)(CdBuffer+3); is the only line being executed, I still get that error. I'm guessing that CdBuffer is a unsigned char *, and adding 3 will make it odd. If so then the you'd get an exception because the PlayStation can only access 16 bit values on addresses divisib...

Re: PlayStation 1 BIOS's [DOWNLOAD]

To bad SCPH-5903 was never copied. With this bios we may have been able to bring VCD support too other models. I dumped it years ago. I'll get a dump of the CD controller firmware at some point. You can't use it to add VCD to other models, because there is additional hardware in the SCPH-5903 that ...

Hi, i just bought a SCPH-1000 from eBay and wanted to ask you guys about its power supply. I know its from Japan and surely they using 100v for this console. I want to ask can i use the original power supply that comes with it on my 240V here in my country ? Because i saw it's written something lik...
