Re: Wobbling disk

WD40 is fine but ONLY in very small amounts. It isn't really meant for that, but i've been using it for years without issues in old retro cd/dvd drives. The trick is to use only a tiny pinch across the sled rail. So literally just a small pinch between two fingers, than fully cover the rail with on...

Wobbling disk

I have 9000-series console and couple years back, I bought a new laser unit for it, since the original had finally worn beyond successful disc reading. The new laser unit worked out fine for the first test I did with it and didn't notice any issues. However, I took the PS1 back up again couple weeks...

Re: PS1 RGB/S-Video cable/output type questions

Re: PS1 RGB/S-Video cable/output type questions

Yet another update, I found something interesting today. This is aftermarket RGB Scart, either for Nintendo SNES/Gamecube and propably the NTSC version. However, when opening the Scart head: https://s15.postimg.org/58ptwljdj/WP_20161121_15_07_06_Pro.jpg https://s15.postimg.org/7ek4r3mtz/WP_20161121_...

Re: PS1 RGB/S-Video cable/output type questions

Yes. You're TV seems to be having troubles locking onto the sync signal in this case. You'll just have to leave it as it was originally. Yeah, I guess so. I have two more things I try out. Firstly, I managed to find one original grey PS1 RGB-Scart cable, that I'm gonna buy in next couple of days. S...

Re: PS1 RGB/S-Video cable/output type questions

I use the chroma sync on my Sony PVM, but you can try using the composite sync instead. So basically, I could just swap that yellow wire and the pin between pins 5-7 to see which one works out the best ? Update: I tried couple things: http://poofycomputers.com/ps2vga/pics/ps2-pinout.png Changed the...

Re: PS1 RGB/S-Video cable/output type questions

Update: I examined the cable more and decided to open up the AV-head. Discovered, that it uses Chroma-sync (pin 7), should it be like that ? The pins 5, 6 and 8 are not in use, as you can see from the picture: https://s17.postimg.org/akbg4ediz/WP_20161118_16_32_08_Pro.jpg I just thought out, that sh...

Allright, gotcha. But I presume, that with PSIO, you need that in order to play NTSC-games ?

Bumping this up, sorry. :)

Did I understand correctly, that by doing such modification, I can force my PAL console with PAL games to use PAL60 colours ?

Re: Question about rare Dual Analog-controller

I remember back in the day reading a magazine that claimed that the Japanese Dual Analog controllers (the only ones that had the rumble motors) were either causing damage to the other components in the controller or the console itself. It was a long time ago, but perhaps it was in the news section ...

Re: PS1 RGB/S-Video cable/output type questions

Bringing up this topic. I dunno, that have this been discussed on anywhere, but I took a picture from my SCART-cable for PS1: https://s18.postimg.org/tuh7tqcid/WP_20161115_16_33_39_Pro.jpg I've wondered for some while, that is it supposed to be like that, that it doesn't have all the pins on it ? It...

Re: Question about rare Dual Analog-controller

Gotcha. Btw, here's some comparison pictures of the Dual Analog (SCPH-1080) and Dual Shock (SCPH-1200) that I just took (dissassembled the Dual Analog and washed the buttons and the case): https://s15.postimg.org/stxz1ezx3/image.jpg https://s15.postimg.org/5trbp323b/image.jpg https://s15.postimg.org...

Question about rare Dual Analog-controller

Hey there! I'm gonna buy that rare Dual Analog controller in a couple days, since I managed to get hold into one of those. However, I've read some discussions about it, that it might burn a controller input board fuse from the console, due too high power consuption of the rumble motors. Sony quickly...

Re: Weird Madcatz-device

Well if the price difference was 20 to 50 $, then it would have been serious contender for some players. Only trouble is of course the wire, that might disturb the playing. :) But yea, having like 4 of those around you would bring some really serious fun for the gaming, so much immersion haha :D Two...

Re: I am a fanboy of the playstation 1 and you?

Maybe the biggest reason too, why PS1 was so enourmous success, was that PS1 wasn't just a childrens toy like Nintendos used to be. It was stylish, well built, very good brand, it was a Sony's, must have machine for every home. And it had very much of mature content too, what helped it a lot.

Re: PS1 RGB/S-Video cable/output type questions

Well, maybe I'll just buy different kind of cables and see, what's the best for my TV. There seems to be better options for HDMI and S-Video cable settings, so maybe S-Video would be worth of try. And my RGB-cable tends to have some sort of sync issues, when I start the machine, picture comes and t...

Re: PS1 RGB/S-Video cable/output type questions

I don't understand the need to go through all that hassle, since TVs are able to strip sync from composite signal on their own :? Besides, the rgb scart standard itself uses composite for synchronization so I don't really get what that retrorgb article is all about :shrug Well, maybe I'll just buy ...

Re: PS1 RGB/S-Video cable/output type questions

If you are wanting a very good quality cable I can recommend the Monster Scart Cable. I have one, its gold plated, oxygen free copper, and very heavy duty cable. The quality is fantastic. Hard to come by nowadays though. Also there is the IXOS one as can be found on this website.. £102 is a wee bi...
