Re: Laser/CD Unit Service

No, I mean put lithium grease on the motor gears. Inside the motor assembly itself use clock oil since it's extremely light. I don't have lithium grease in my posession, but this combination of that sprayable vaseline and couple drops of sewing machine/universal oil has been working well too. And t...

Re: Laser/CD Unit Service

Yea, never ever put WD-40 over there, especially to the motors, they die from it (been there, done that). Spindle motors always tend to have some loose on them, when you pull the axle of the motor up and down a bit, but this was still in pretty good condition. And I don't have lithium grease in my p...

Laser/CD Unit Service

I recorded this footage last night, where I did my own service operation for regular 9002-model console. I've done this to every one of my PS1's and they all worked just fine after this. One console didn't even work before I serviced it with these methods. Disclaimer thou, I'm not recommending to do...

Re: Weird Madcatz-device

Sorry to bump this up but I found the true purpose of this device. Back in the 90's, Mad Catz released some wheels for PS1, specifically designed to work with multiple different games and had a force feedback in them with rumble. However, after they had released those into the market, they started t...

Re: Rendering resolution - 480p possible ?

Since this was discussed to be ''plausible'' to archieve, but would propably require some hardware improvements, how about using Parallel Port for such things ? I mean, it's afterall designed for additional hardware attachments for sure, so how about the possibilities with that ?

Re: Rendering resolution - 480p possible ?

I seem to remember that regular RGB over SCART isn't even 480p/576p certified. Unfortunately, I can't find information on that anymore. Also, all the video processing chips would have to support the higher scan rate of 31khz and I really don't think they do. (RGB DAC, RGB encoder) I just checked, s...

Re: Rendering resolution - 480p possible ?

That's a bit complicated for my head haha. But anyway, this is interesting thought, so that's why I wanted to bring this up. If someone is willing to investigate and have knowledge about these things, that would be interesting and cool. Who knows, maybe you guys find some neat ideas for console modd...

Re: Rendering resultion - 480p possible ?

According to the PlayStation Programmer's Tool SDK docs, it is kinda possible to achieve non-interlaced hi-res mode (in other words, 480p) on the console but only when using an RGB cable. I don't know if it is valid though because where does the PlayStation output a progressive sync signal when run...

Re: Rendering resultion - 480p possible ?

Okay, so there is a way to do so, but the hardware capabilities hit their limits ? Shame, would have been great to investigate more about it. So far, many games do support it without any issues, but some games have some minor or game breaking issues of what I've seen.

Rendering resolution - 480p possible ?

This has been on my mind for some time over recent months. I've been testing some games with emulator and decided to run them with double resolution mode, which apparrently renders the games in 480p resolution, making significant difference in terms of gameplay even without any other optional plugin...

Re: Question about rare Dual Analog-controller

Omg, that picture I sended previosly was a part of this collection, that I managed to dig up from the web archives: https://web.archive.org/web/19961128121425if_/http://www.vidgames.com:80/ps/hardware/sonyanalogpad.jpg And the whole information about those is written in this archived PS1 gaming page...

Re: Question about rare Dual Analog-controller

Another update. I researched some information about the controller and found this image from webarchives: https://web.archive.org/web/20120214122441im_/http://www.ncsx.com/www/dualpad2.jpg That's right, a black/dark grey Dual Analog controller. I think that either it is a prototype, promo or develop...

Re: Question about rare Dual Analog-controller

Slight update on the Dual Analog working on the games. I noticed, that the analog pad mechanisms are actually pretty bad in these, I'm right now using the second revision model for gaming, as I felt that the first revision (round axle analog pad mechanisms) was a bit special, so I keep it in safe. I...

Re: Question about rare Dual Analog-controller

There should be some way to get the buttons back working. I don't know which is the best (and longest lasting) method, but some ideas would be cleaning the contacts with contact spray or some other liquids, or 'repainting' the contacts with conductive silver, or search for 'remote control buttons' ...

Re: Question about rare Dual Analog-controller

Today I decided to clean the PCB from one of those second revision controllers, as it felt, that it's dirty and bit worn out, X-button didn't work properly. But, of course, it could be, that the controllers are just so worn out, that they can't be saved, unless I would put Dual Shock stuff in, becau...

SCPH-1180 - ''Flat Oval'' Axle Analog Pads, Part 3, propably second, cheaper revision This controller is identical to the second one, so no differences can be found in these. Only difference I noticed between all of the controllers is the serial on the chip in the boar...

Sorry about the delay, I couldn't examine and take photos of the controllers over the weekend, but now I'm working on it. Re: Question about rare Dual Analog-controller

No, I didn't notice any lag. Or do you mean that ugly 500 cycle delay being needed in the serial transfer? You'll never notice that with the offical kernel - since it's always using that even bigger delay with more than 2000 cycles - no matter what kind of controller you have connected. It's only a...

TheShadowRunner wrote:Oh, ok, I thought these had 'Dual Shock' written on the back label, not 'Analog Controller'.

Nope, Dual Shock 2 (PS2) had that written on the front side next to the cable output. PS1 Dual Shocks only read Analog Controller on the back.
