Re: [Hardware Mod] NTSC/PAL reference oscillator mod for PU-18
If you have installed them as per the photos you posted, the install is correct - the component positions indicated in my original document are wrong.

Re: Is it possible to debug PS1 code with an XPlorerFX ?
No it's not what I meant. I mean REMOTE debugging with such boards as the PSY-Q one that went into the parallel port of a blue unit : https://www.retroreversing.com/official-playStation-devkit My question is : is there a possibility to replicate HARDWARE REMOTE debugging ? Also, if possible, using ...

Re: PlayStation PAL Series Colour/Color Modification (PAL60)
Is there a problem with game speed like it is in older consoles? PAL PSone also outputs NTSC4.43? Yes, exactly the same situation - the GPU clock is fixed by the hardware to the PAL clock so when switched to 60Hz it's not quite at the right frequency. The PSone video hardware can be generally consi...

Re: PlayStation PAL Series Colour/Color Modification (PAL60)
The later model PAL machines (SCPH-7002, SCPH-7502 and SCPH-9002) will produce NTSC-4.43 when running NTSC software. This was the output format typically used by multi-standard VCRs when playing back NTSC tapes, so a lot of Euro spec TVs can handle it. Is there a problem with game speed like it is ...

Re: Is is possible to write PSX games on a Mac?
I've never seen anything like it, and it's probably technically impossible. But it would be interesting to hear the opinions of others! I think it's doable - you would probably have to abandon the idea of using the original PsyQ/SDevTC tools and base it around something like PSn00bSDK instead, sinc...

Re: SCPH-1001 starts spinning but then stops
It's quite possible, especially on a console that old, that the optical pickup is simply dead. If you can get hold of a PSone then try plugging the -ACM into it and see if it works (the PSone has automatic servo adjustment) - if it doesn't work, then there is basically no chance of it working in a S...

Re: Hello, trying to fix SCPH-1001 and Xplorer V2 questions
Unfortunately, there are a whole bunch of things that can stop the CD drive from working even if the optical pickup is good. Can it read the TOC on the disc (put in an audio disc and see if the track numbers appear in the CD player)? If it's reading the TOC, can it play an audio track? Is it distort...

Re: Ps1 scph 1000 replacement bios
I think the 29F400 is a 5V part - see if you can get a 29LV400, which is the 3V equivalent.
That pinout you posted seems to be for some other device - possibly a 29F800 since it has an A18 pin...

Re: Ps1 scph 1000 replacement bios
Unfortunately not - at least not reliably. The difference is the supply voltage = 27C400 = 5V part, 27V400 = 3.3V part - and the PSX is a 3.3V system Also note that full-size DIP package won't fit on the board - the package that fits the PCB is a .525" small outline type. If you want a part tha...

Re: Mod chip history
I think stealth 2.8a was developed by someone in the UK, but I'm not sure who. It was pretty widely available in the UK at the time in any case. MM3 appears to be based on Mayumi 4.0 - the "new boards" code is pretty much identical, but there is some extra stuff for mode selection and comp...

Re: Ps1 scph 1000 replacement bios
OK thank you very much. Personally I would like a bios of the 7xxx or 9xxx series, I suppose it should work right? For the programming on the chip I only have to download the bios in the .bin format and enter it like this without modifying any line? Thank you very much again Yes, you should be able...

Re: Ps1 scph 1000 replacement bios
The mask ROMs in these old machines use a standard JEDEC pinout - so the cleanest approach is to get a 3.3V 512kbit SO EPROM like a 27V400 and just solder it in - this is an exact pin for pin replacement and will just drop in place of the ROM. These were however never very widely used parts in that ...

Re: PlayStation PAL Series Colour/Color Modification (PAL60)
Ok, more updates. I borrowed a friends 9000 model ps1 and it booted straight into a usa game in colour using my cables and my tv. Whilst my ps1 isnt technically faulty as it plays PAL games play perfectly over the RGB cable on this pal machine. So no idea why it doesnt work for Japanese and America...

Re: PSX CD-Player only Project
Unfortunately it isn't. :( It's a pity! And such an option for playing a CD as " A-B repeat " is possible? Or maybe it has already been implemented, I just did not notice it? :? There isn't any function to do this in the CD-ROM firmware - but it's certainly possible using code running on ...

Re: PSX CD-Player only Project
I'm interested if PSX capable of reading CD-Text information on AudioCD ? Maybe there is a project that has implemented such a function ? Unfortunately it isn't. The signals running from the CD DSP that carry the full subcode (including the R to W channels that CD-Text is stored in) are simply not ...

Re: TTY output with real hardware (how ?)
The actual hardware that works with the boot ROM debug console code is a Motorola 68681 DUART mapped to 0x1f802000-0x1f80207f - there doesn't seem to be any chip select for this, so you have to decode the address yourself. The DTL-H2000 has some logic on it that implements just enough of this functi...

Re: 17w VS 10w: is there a difference?
OK, this is serious necroposting, but in case anyone else has the same question the answer is basically no. It's just a difference in the way that UL used to calculate nameplate power ratings compared to pretty much anyone else in the world. This especially tended to show up on small switch mode sup...

Re: [Hardware Mod] NTSC/PAL reference oscillator mod for PU-18
My guess is that you accidentally shorted something and blew a fuse - they are the little black devices with reference designations starting with "PS" (Like "PS602") that are on the lower left corner of the board near the socket that connects to the power supply. Try powering the...

Re: [Hardware Mod] 8MB in (PU-18) Retail PSX
Yeah, that's the correct setting - obviously, that software will only work with an FTDI chip and if you're using some other USB->serial adapter you will need to invert the lines using hardware. I've used these things just wired directly to link cables set up like that successfully with SIOCONS. FTDI...
