Not knowing squat on the PSX, but I can echo that a '.mod' is the song file from a tracker. It includes the sequence data (patterns) and the instruments (could be Wav samples) needed to replay. All I can say is, the introduction of batari Basic for the Atari 2600 has increased the homebrew scene by 10x. Any tool that opens things up more people is a good thing
