Re: Trying to run a headerless PSYQ .exe from ROM in PSYQ
Oh, I don't mind
The build gives me quick access to CD controller commands, without even a CD inserted.
It's all I need for development :p

Re: Trying to run a headerless PSYQ .exe from ROM in PSYQ
Thanks, you're awesome!
Edit:
Works well it seems. I used the new nxflash with romfile.exe to create a flasher CD.
Edit2:
But neither of the 2 CD boot options work (you probably know this :p).

Sure,
attached is the PSX.EXE, extracted with power iso
Its SYSTEM.CNF looks typical:
The file isn't even that big. I don't remember what the constraints are for plugins right now, but this might fit onto the current release even.

Re: Trying to run a headerless PSYQ .exe from ROM in PSYQ
Thanks for sharing your findings, even if I can't make sense of it :) Is this to allow embedding more psx executables? I could really use a cheat cart with "PSX ROMid 1.7.0" on it :p (This tool: https://i.imgur.com/xizx3P5.png) No idea if it can be made to fit though. Maybe on the 512k Xpl...

Re: PSNee further development
Yea, these are the nicest consoles for multi region. It's rare for NTSC people to look for one, but here in PAL land, they're occasionally asked for :) I think I made a couple of these. As you say, you need a PU-8 board for the easiest install (though it works on every PSX if you bodge it!). Applica...

Re: PSNee further development
Awesome, thanks for sharing back! :) I'd just like to mention that, since you have the ESP32, you should be far less pin constrained. With more available inputs, you can use some other signals to simplify things. There is a signal called XSLOW or similar, for example, which is just the drive speed (...

Again, I'm not sure what you've learned up until now.
This video should help illustrate. It's for the SNES, but the SNES APU is comparable to the PSX SPU ;p

Re: [Hardware Mod] NTSC/PAL reference oscillator mod for PU-18
Well, can you not modify any other $5 console instead?
It'd be a shame to do this to a debug station.
Anyway, the essential part is swapping the 53.2 oscillator for a 53.69 one.

Re: [Hardware Mod] NTSC/PAL reference oscillator mod for PU-18
Is this exactly your board? The PU-8 series has sub numbers to categorize them by. This board is the PU-8-11, which is mostly the old PU-7 design. Starting with PU-8-21, you get the dual oscillator option. But in this -11, there's just a ground pad in its place. You can still just swap the oscillato...

Re: PSNee further development
Dark-Show: No, I doubt this particular problem is a carry over. The code simply has to open-drain the data pin to fix the problem. This is obvious to a modchip developer, so I think it was just an oversight. From what I remember, the laser fix is required because the Mechacon in these PS2s tends to ...

Re: Desperation about Sounds/SPU
Well, the synth part is just like MIDI. You have samples to play and programmed notes make up your song. So this is pretty hard, unless you're already making tracker / midi style music. The example probably has a few samples in a bank (hence VB?). So you need to get some notes instructions to the SP...

Re: Desperation about Sounds/SPU
Not sure if that helps you, but you need to keep the hardware in mind. The SPU is basically a synthesizer chip with limited memory. You create tiny samples and play them like an automated keyboard. There's no way your 4MB file can be played like that. It simply won't fit in RAM. Instead, you can use...

Re: Force NTSC output mod?
Long story short: Don't attempt to force the PSX system into a single mode all the time. It is too complicated to do reliably.
Instead, upgrade your HDMI adapter solution.

Looks like a trace (connection between chips) or a VRAM chip is going bad.
It's very hard to repair, even with tools.

For SIO, all you need is a small external device that plugs into the serial port on your 7001.
It doesn't require any internal modification.

Re: Profiling performance using Root Counters?
I recommend looking for a PSX model number <= 750x (with expansion port) and one of the homebrew friendly expansion cards. For the card, all it has to do is boot you into a Serial Comms loader (great example here: http://www.psxdev.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=75&t=3460). You'll also need a USB to ...
