All the carts I've seen labeled "Game Hunter" are based on the old Action Replay design, and although they have a 25 pin D-Type connector on the back it will only connect to the "PC Comms Link" board, not a printer point.
Can you open the cartridge up and take a photo of the PCB? This is the easiest way of working out which sort of board it is.

OK, that is the old "Action Replay 1.x" design - and you can't connect it to a PC printer port. I'm not sure why it's not being detected by X-flash, though, since that is one of the common flash ROM types.

What's it being identified as? It should show you the first bytes of the maker and device IDs

but, does that prevent you to flash the action replay ?
I thing I remember my action replay was not recognized and I could still flash it with the smallest Unirom version.

The datasheet for flash/eeprom should tell you if it's 128, and if it's Kbit or Kbyte.
If it's currently flashed with EMS firmware then D0h,01h would be the first two bytes of the FLASH memory, meaning that the chip didn't enter ID mode, and still returns the normal memory instead of the ID bytes.
My best idea would be that you haven't properly connected the cart to the console: either bad contacts on the write signal pin (=ID/write not working), or bad contacts on all pins (=nothing working, not even showing the EMS firmware interface).
