Modchips don't interact with the BIOS at all, except for this one case where the OneChip code patches a region check in the 102 (so PAL PSOne only) machine.
You can use all the retro chips to unlock the 1002 Mechacon, but if you feel like tinkering a little, try PsNee for Arduino.
PsNee is more intelligent than the other chips. It works the same on all consoles and the stealth function is actually part of its operation.
Otherwise, I believe Stealth V2.8a is recommended for a 100x series.
