Maybe I can try it and we can worry about saving the bitmap if the results are worth it?

Sorry for refloating this thread but it is true that only the earlier models are affected then? I have a 7502 and a 5502 but since the 7502 wouldn't be possible to mod it with the upcoming PS1HDMI mod while the 5502 will be, I am so interested on this, thanks!

Apart from the color banding issue, I suppose they were referring to this
PSone on the left, blue debug on the right (old vram)
Playing on the blue debug some games are really slower...
Tried also with FFIX and the summons are really bad...

Just variances in hardware. A major one would be CD-ROM reading speeds, and a minor one would be that the PSone chips would be completing operations quicker. Same clock speeds of course, but at the silicone electron level they are probably completing operations a bit quicker so they flag an interrupt or perform DMA sooner. For example, the old and very early Sony R3000 CPU had cache miss problems, but it was later resolved. It wouldn't surprise me if they made other changes throughout each revision too, especially once they hit the PSone board revision.
Of course, what I just said can be ignored if for your test you were just using a PAL and NTSC model since because they run at different speeds
