This is a cross-post from my /r/consolerepair reddit post.
I picked up a SCPH-1001 system (PU-8 board) that looks like it came out of 1995 - not a mark on the console, inside looks flawless, controllers look new, and the included games/cases look new. Boots games fine, but the audio is messed up - worse than the "ringing"/hanging notes I see from others online. Audio CD plays back fine in the cd player. Issue occurs both with RCA outputs and multi-out cable.
I'd like to get this fixed without hacking up the pristine board too much. Putting pressure on different ICs have showed no change in behavior. I've tested each of the IC305/308/310 pins against probe-able points on the board, and everything shows great continuity.
Does anyone have a good direction to go into troubleshooting this further, without just throwing parts at it from another 1001 I have? Just comparing 1001 to 1001 and scoping everything, I could see that taking way too many hours, going in blind. Maybe a specific cap or two that can be checked?

Thanks for any input!
