No I didn't really tinker with this drive since. I just tested with PU-8 and PU-20 motherboards today (now that I have a SCPH-1002 and SCPH-7002) and this circuit works too, the wobble is detected on both like I thought!
However, I noticed that 50k for RV1 may not be the best as I suggested, the ...

Re: SCPH-1001 with Revision 2.0 BIOS?
I've checked too and that doesn't seem to be explained indeed. To be fair, it's not that big of a deal anyway but that could have been added as a small note still. These paragraphs in the 2nd screenshot are hilarious though

Re: SCPH-1001 with Revision 2.0 BIOS?
Yeah, I don't think there is anything much to do if the shaft or its alignment is faulty.
I also noticed that my 1002 spindle shaft has a slight play but it's reading fine in the 5502 so it's not as bad as yours for now.
As for why the EXE may not be at the beginning and located elsewhere, I have ...

Re: SCPH-1001 with Revision 2.0 BIOS?
Well, I just saw this video on servicing the PS1 drive, the guy seems to know his stuff and he shows exactly how we should lubricate the motors.
(which means that I still added oil in the wrong hole apparently like he's pointing out at 4:41...)

Re: SCPH-1001 with Revision 2.0 BIOS?
So, I just want to bring some information from my experience analyzing the SCEx checks, OPUs and trying to understand their spindle motor lubrication.
In the 5501 videos, the OPUs are clearly reading poorly just by hearing the sound they produce. The FMVs play well but that doesn't mean the OPUs ...

Re: C Programming Issues(Psy-Q SDK 1.12: Controller and Graphics Issues)
The issue here is that "PADTYPE" is not defined anywhere in your code or any header file in the include folder of the PsyQ SDK. Actually, I saw this type defined only in the PSn00bSDK which is another SDK, different from PsyQ:

Re: Reverse Engineering the PSX Copy Protection (Wobble Groove)
Thanks everyone!
Quick update, I just bought 2 drives from different Aliexpress sellers to really confirm that clones don't work with the custom SCEx pattern.
I discovered that one of them is actually an original, it needs lubrication but otherwise the pattern works on it!

Re: Reverse Engineering the PSX Copy Protection (Wobble Groove)
Now the tests I did last week show that by using this DiscT@2 method, the result depends on the drive itself.
I was quite excited with the one I tested because I could get boot success 90% of the time using another trick (even if the success also depends on the angle we insert the disc on the ...

Does the laser head move when it detects the speed change, and could increasing/decreasing it, create the SCEX wobble?
Theoretically no, it should stay on the track. The spindle motor just has to accelerate or decelerate to keep the same EFM frequency as its reference clock.

Re: Reverse Engineering the PSX Copy Protection (Wobble Groove)
The Datel products are definitely pressed CD-ROMs, not CD-Rs.
I guess the CD-ROM and CD-R glass masters can be made using the same machines?
If I'm not wrong, to make a CD-ROM glass master, the machines send the EFM pattern to the LBR and for CD-R, they just turn on the laser beam constantly to ...

Re: Reverse Engineering the PSX Copy Protection (Wobble Groove)
From my understanding and from what I've seen somewhere probably on a CD replication website and wikipedia, the factories will just get the raw sectors from the disc like anyone would do with common softwares or the customer can send the files via internet. Then they will basically send the sectors ...

Re: Reverse Engineering the PSX Copy Protection (Wobble Groove)
Hi, thanks!
That's great to get more information on the origins of the project!
I don't know Mr Lau but I will check with the guy that told me the story.
I guessed that increasing the disc speed was your solution too.
60kHz seems a bit extreme to me but at least the original wobble is not an issue ...

Re: Reverse Engineering the PSX Copy Protection (Wobble Groove)
Hey, that's quite nice that you are in this industry!
The idea for replicating the copy protection was explained quickly in a youtube comment of a former Datel engineer that I mentioned earlier in this thread.
It's not something that we can insert into an iso file, it's basically made the same way ...

Re: Alien Ressurection has a cheat code to load code without a reset.
Yeah, UniROM basically uses the same way to load the game executable (SYSTEM.CNF -> PS1 exe). It just doesn't need to stop the disc and instead applies the nocash unlock before loading the game (except for japanese PS1s where the unlock code doesn't work hence the stop disc option in the menu ...

Re: Alien Ressurection has a cheat code to load code without a reset.
There is nothing related to the nocash unlock.
Basically, this is just stopping the disc with CdControlB() (CdlStop as 1st parameter), then loading SYSTEM.CNF from the swapped game to know its executable path and use LoadExec() to launch it. I guess that's exactly what are doing the boot discs like ...

1) Yep, I can literally burn almost any pattern but burning the 3 words will be even less reliable until I can find how to solve the other issues.

Re: Reverse Engineering the PSX Copy Protection (Wobble Groove)
I can't find any good pictures that are showing how the normal CDR wobble should look like... now I am wondering if that's the same kind of wobbling at all (especially as the PSX wobble appears to generate that audible sound in the drive mechanics, I guess regular CDRs won't do such things).
On ...

Re: Sony Discman with PS1 laser
Interesting finding! Btw, I just noticed that the CXA1782BR, CXD2516Q and CXD1199AQ chips (well, another revision to be exact, the CXD1199BQ) are also used in the PS1 PU-7 motherboard.
See https://problemkaputt.de/psx-spx.htm#pi ... setsummary in the list of CDROM chips.

Re: Alternative PS1 CD Rom drive found.
After using these drive for a bit, I have some more info I can share.
My SCPH-1000 still works really well with it. There is something really weird about picking up the wobble on the super old console models that have manual Bias and Gain however. Sometimes it just doesn't pick up the SCEI signal ...

Re: Alternative PS1 CD Rom drive found.
So, I actually bought this drive recently and I am quite doubtful on its build quality (and more generally on "bad" made in china replacements).
