PS3 Memory Card Adapter for Reading PS1 Memory Card on PC

Post by Orion_ » September 13th, 2013, 5:43 am

Hello,
I have a little project, I know that the PS3 have a USB memory card adapter for PS2 & PS1 memory card.
If it's USB then you can use it on PC ! and people already used it mostly for PS2 memory card.
But here we are PS1 fan, so I wanted to use it for reading PS1 memory card, unfortunately there are almost no tool to do it, there is MCRWwin but it's in Japanese, and I didn't succeeded in making it work using my adapter.
So I started to search for informations, sources code, and I'm trying to make my own tool using libusb.

EDIT:
The tool is now available !
http://onorisoft.free.fr/psx/psx.htm#Tools

it's command line on purpose, easier to code, and can be easily called by an external "GUI" tool.
Also, I included 2 batch file for dumping/writing a full backup easily, just run one batch file to dump your memory card, or drag and drop a backup on another batch file to restore your memory card :)

32/64bits USB driver and source code included !
Enjoy !

Bumping this because I'm interested.
I unfortunately don't have the adapter but I'm hoping someone will stumble upon this.
I have bought one cheap from DX but it wasn't working with MCRWin so I used the case to make a LPT card reader.
Dev console: SCPH-7502, FreePSXBoot, CH340 serial cable.

I have an official Sony adapter and a few memory cards (official only), but the link for your program is broken. Keen to test if you still need some help!

the low level code is working, I need to find some time to do a user interface (don't know if I will do a line command tool or a GUI)

Is your program still available to check to see if my 3rd party adapter would work with it? I could provide some feedback on it as well.

Unfortunately I get "This application can not be run from the command line. Please use your initial installer application if you want to install the driver. " when running installer_x64. Manually installed drivers, but mines a 3rd party and no go. Will test again on Win XP just because.

* Edit - After seeing your source, I realized I was misinterpreting the error slightly. I thought it wasn't finding my adapter, but I guess it was. Error was Ps1 memory card not found for one card, error reading sector 0 from 2 others. So might not work, but still detected.

I had problems with an unofficial adapter, it wasn't able to read an official sony memory card, only third party memory card, which is quite strange.
I only had successful read/write with the official adapter on all the memory card (including pocket station)
If the unofficial adapter won't accept the commands that work with an official adapter, I guess I can't help it.

Will THIS work?:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brand-New-PS2-M ... 3a77944032

Also, why not a good GUI for windows? Or even better, why not encorporate the option to use this hardware inside MemCardRex??? ...Since most people are using Memcardrex on their pc to handle/store/backup their PS saves :)

Whaaaaat. $40 is a tad too high methinks.
This is the one I have. Does not work it seems. It does say -
  • Will not works on all PS 1 memory cards - if you want this item for PS one memory card, please don't order.
  • Only works on PS3 consoles, not for PC.
  • Works on all PS3 consoles around the world.
  • Only works on genuine Sony PS2 8M memory card.
I should have believed them.

Walked into pawn shop, found official one for $5. Tried it with the tool, worked right away. Excellent. 2 tools opened up to me in the span of 1 day to backup my mem cards.
