Hi Shadow, thank you for the fast replying :-)!
Well, my SCPH-1000 have some serious issues about the CDDA track reading. With Ridge Racer works very bad (I test the PAL original ver. and the japanese ver.) and it reads the bgm on the middle (after like 1/1.30 minute) and it doesn't match with the title. Also with another games like Cybersled or F1 97 Japanese version (this works better but have the same issues - load wrong track ).
Oh, i make a video....maybe is much clear to explain with it :)
Another strange thing, the laser read the tracks from another position where is no CDDA tracks data. So it read anything.
Also, if i play the music from "CD PLAYER" on BIOS,it work perfectly. I'm so desperate :crying .....maybe there is no solution.
Here's my set data :
- Motherboard : PU-7 (1-655-322-13A)
- OPU : KSM-440BAM (original). Excellent condition with a very smooth mecha.
- F BIAS / F GAIN : 1.70v- 1.82v
- Serial Code : 5963019

Oh yeah :-(!
Same problem with a japanese backup (burnt on 4x). Hope is nothing particular...but this time i'm think is some IC.
And if is IC i can't swap because i have only IC from the 1002 model (for example the CXD2516 on 1000 have 100 pin and on the 1002 have only 80 pin ).
Maybe this 1000 is finished or not.... :crying :crying .

Loving the date code on your R3000A. Week 7 of 1995 :P
This particular R3000A (CXD8530Q) had 'I' cache problems. It's the famous "bugged CPU".

Anyway. Have you tried replacing the optical block assembly?
I can hear it adjusting itself quite a bit in your video when you skip tracks.

The CPU of the 1000 PS1 is so sexy, isn't? :)
I can see (i think) the die of IC on the board.
But yes, i used 3 OPU :

KSM-440BAM (original) - problem with CDDA
KSM-440AEM (original) - problem with CDDA
KSM-440ADM (chinese) - problem with CDDA.
Yesterday, when i test again the machine, i hear a very loud sound from the OPU (the lents looks like fatigued that day, it happen only one time) but it still playing the track.
I don't get...why this console have this strange problem :(. Another example :
I used TEKKEN 1 (jap - original) and it works like a charm but it still use the DA tracks like Ridge Racer.

Hmm... What happens if you try to play Ridge Racer with the PSX upside down? Same issue??

Heh, that's good to hear. It's your drive assembly. You need to swap it over since the plastic sled is worn.

But in my case, it's worn the plastic of the 2nd image? Because BAM it's all in alluminum, of course :)!

The upside down trick isn't a fix, but it can assist with helping the laser track and focus correctly.
It's a good way of diagnosing an issue, and in your case, the CD-ROM assembly deck is bad.

Well, Shadow, we have some little progress but isn't enough :geek: .
I used 4 laser deck and only one works little better.
Is from a Chinese laser, it read perfectly the first track but not the other :).

So, i have a simple question : Can i glue a metal floppy sheet to the OPU or there is another way to have a perfect laser deck?

You can use a newer KSM-440AEM laser, but you'll need to mix and match parts from the KSM-440BAM, and I think you also need to break a clip for it to fit. The cable is also really long, so it will reach the mainboard (just fold it around itself). This is what I did for my SCPH-1002 (PU-8) and it worked fine.

Yes, you can glue metal sheets. I've seen someone do that before online, but it isn't the easiest task and calibration wise, it may not even work after all your hard work of metal fabrication.

Oh, Chinese lasers are also not new apparently. They are actually refurbished units.

I noticed something with my SCPH-1000. I have also a SCPH-1002 with a KSM-440AAM (repaired with metal floppy shield) and with Ridge Racer works perfectly. If a use the AAM on the 1000, it have a problem with the CDDA.
I'm going to be crazy XD.
By the way, Shadow, maybe is the pot tweak or the laser alignment (it be set to 11.4mV,right?)...
Now i'm gonna to use a New KSM-440ADM from a SCPH-5502 (is a chinese clone aka refurbished :lol: )!

The voltage varies. What you're supposed to do is the eye pattern test and calibrate it so all phases are in sync.

I know....the oscilloscope is essential for the laser adjustment.
Nice eye pattern, Shadow (is a Tektronix Oscilloscope ?)
Oh, i diassemble the KSM-440BAM (that one not work) and look what i find....i think you're right. The plastic sleds sucks.

It's hard to find a drive that works nowadays. Hence why PSIO was developed. The only thing you can do is get a later model PSX and merge the laser assembly with your 1000, since the later modelled PSX laser decks seem to work not too bad.
