using EXE with PSIO

Post by flynnz » February 23rd, 2020, 5:52 pm

Hey all. I have been reading through these forums as a novice for a while but can't seem to find the information I need. I am basically trying to get my Net Yaroze file from back in the day to run on my PSIO.

To do this I tried a few psx building tools like CDGen, PSXisomaker, PSX DiscPatcher. My main issue (I think) is being able to generate a SYSTEM.CNF file. I tried a generic CNF file (as I couldn't find any information as to how to generate this file) and changed the name of the boot exe to match that of the name of my exe on the root of the CD. When I try and load up the game in epsxe I get "recompile block too large". When I create an image without the system.cnf file on the root, ePSXe just hangs on a black screen. I can load the game fine using the load EXE option of ePSXe.

So basically, I guess my question is, how would I go about generating a proper CNF file for my Net Yaroze exe?

Thanks

I'm far from an expert but when I got a Net Yaroze example code to boot on a regular Playstation, I had to run COMBINE2.EXE in Dos Box to to make the Net Yaroze code to a NY.exe then I used EXEFIXUP.EXE to fix it.
From my notes the steps was :-

1) COMBINE2.EXE batch0 batch0.exe
2) EXEFIXUP.EXE (yes, pad it to 2048 bytes)
3) BUILDCD.EXE -l -iBATCH0.IMG BATCH0.CTI (see the CTI sheet below)
4) STRIPISO.EXE S 2352 BATCH0.IMG BATCH0.ISO
5) PSXLICENSE.EXE /eu/ i BATCH0.ISO

I am sure i struggled with step 3 onwards.

go to http://www.wituz.com/make-playstation-1-games.html

scroll down to Part 4 - Burning and Playing on a PS1 Console

download cdrom.zip - The toolset used to create PS1 .ISOs from a PSY-Q project folder.

im sure his download helped me make a licenced.iso that booted on a standard Playstation.
