Look on here, lots of threads in the hardware section.

Essentially you need a link cable and a USB UART, chop the plug off one end, work out which colour wires are Rx/tx and gnd using a multimeter.

Then connext Rx to tx on the UART, tx to RX and gnd to gnd. That's it.

WCH stuff is normally alright too, fairly reliable.

That link just looks like a USB plug? That wouldn't have any use in this case.

Either the first one you mentoned or I tend to personally recommend the spankfun ftdi breakout but it's more expensive.

If you mean psxserial yes it is. However it's very limited and slow

You can boot the unirom disc and have more functionality and faster transfers with the unirom disc and Nops.

Get NoPs.exe from Unirom release or download latest one from here.
Connect your serial cable, boot Unirom's disc, plug your cartridge and run this command from your current NoPs folder:
NoPS /dump 0x1F000000 0x20000 comX
Replace X with your COM port number (check Unirom readme for more infos).
It should download a DUMP_1F000000_to_00020000.bin file from your cart to your PC if everything is set up properly.

By opening a command prompt or just get the attached file.
Unizip the .bat file alongside NoPs, edit it to change the com port matching your setup, save and execute it.

Which Unirom / NoPs version are you using ?
Please try with Unirom 8.0.C and NoPs that comes with.
Sickle made some changes to latest NoPs that may have broken a few things when used with older Unriom.

Might have to try both; with my CP2104 it's TX-RX & RX-TX, but IIRC with the arduino I had to use TX-TX & RX-RX.
While you're setting things up what you can do is try just GND+RX with nops in monitor mode
(nops /m)
Every time you reset the psx it'll be like "hi from unirom" or something so you have some feedback.

So this shouldn't affect 3 wire setups at all! Should also be fine with sharklink/yaroze cables which have more connections.
I think your adapter is a weird edge case here :D
