Future Proof Laser

Post by ellison » October 16th, 2016, 3:00 pm

When I replace my laser assembly, I want it to be the last laser that will ever have to put in my PlayStation. What pieces fail first and what can we do to future proof our CD drives?

The only think I can think of at the moment is the plastic pieces wearing down. That's a pretty easy fix I think if I glue some very thin aluminum an each plastic piece that comes in mechanical contact with another plastic piece. The gears could be replaced by aluminum gears very easily (at least I think that now). Are the problems of the laser assembly purely mechanical or am I missing some electrical concerns?

I want my this PlayStation to last 2000 years.
