Linux for the PSX does exist. I have never tried it however.
Development Console: SCPH-5502 with 8MB RAM, MM3 Modchip, PAL 60 Colour Modification (for NTSC), DB-9 breakout headers for both RGB and Serial output and an Xplorer with CAETLA 0.34.

Development Computer: Windows 98, Pentium 3 [400MHz], 128MB SDRAM, DTL-H2000, DTL-H201A, 21" Sony Trinitron CRT, CD-ROM burner, 3.25" and 5.25" Floppy Diskette Drives and a ZIP 100 Diskette Drive.

Linux for PS1? Doesn't sound very usefull for me, unless if you would manage to attach a keyboard and create some better quality image (even for simple text editing normal television screen would kill my eyes).

Linux for PS1 has never been released, AFAIK, but only for PS2 (PS3 maybe too? I don't have that console).

Here you go: http://psxdev.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=198

I found them in my archives that I downloaded a long time ago. Uploaded it to Google now.
All that's needed is a keyboard hack, PlayStation mouse, and RGB as your video out and you have a basic PC.
Development Console: SCPH-5502 with 8MB RAM, MM3 Modchip, PAL 60 Colour Modification (for NTSC), DB-9 breakout headers for both RGB and Serial output and an Xplorer with CAETLA 0.34.
