Reasonable range for world coordinates? VECTOR?

Post by accumulator » February 20th, 2023, 10:12 am

As I understand it, SVECTOR is used for local/object coordinates, and I assume a reasonable range for those might be something like -ONE to ONE.

But what about world coordinates? It looks like VECTOR is the type for those, allowing a larger range, but what is a reasonable range for world coordinates before doing camera transformations, etc.?

If someone has expected ranges for each coordinate system in the chain from local to screen, that would be really helpful! Thank you!

There's a PDF and PowerPoint presentation from Sony describing the matrix's in better detail on the Technical Reference CD. That information should help you.

PlayStation Development PC: Windows 98 SE, Pentium 3 at 400MHz, 128MB SDRAM, DTL-H2000, DTL-H2010, DTL-H201A, DTL-S2020 (with 4GB SCSI-2 HDD), 21" Sony G420, CD-R burner, 3.25" and 5.25" Floppy Diskette Drives, ZIP 100 Diskette Drive and an IBM Model M keyboard.
