SPU testing program?

Post by zoinknoise » March 8th, 2020, 11:01 am

hi all. i have had a look at the resources available on this forum but i haven't found what i'm looking for.

i've got an SCPH-1000 here with some sort of odd sound problem. i'm playing thru FF7 and the music frequently glitches in subtle ways; notes will drop out/be out of tune, instruments will be wrong, sound effects will play longer than normal, etc. it's all very subtle and probably easily missed if i hadn't played the game so much on other machines.

my problem is actually very similar to the guy in this thread: http://www.psxdev.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=1250

my question is, is there some sort of diagnostic disc out there to test the system hardware? (similar to the Nintendo "Aging Cassette" for the Super Fami) because at the moment i can't exactly tell if the SPU is bad, the SPU RAM is bad, or what...

thanks.
