Very noob question about OnLine PSX ROMS

Hello everybody,
as the title says, I have no experience in game development, I'm only a "casual gamer" who had put off of the crate his old PS1.
Now my problem:
I discovered that many of my old games are broken (CDs are ruined), so I decided to download some ROM games from the internet and burn them. Now, some of them work, but the majority of them stop right after the PS logo.

Is there any way for an ignorant mind as mine to bring life to those games?

By PS logo I assume you mean the license screen and not the Sony Computer Entertainment Incorporated logo, but anyway, it sounds like your laser is bad.

The PS logo I mean is the one with the black colour behind.

Regarding to the laser, that's a bad thing... But if the laser is ruined, why other games run without problems?

Anyway, should I buy another laser or there is a way to fix it?

Well, apart from the laser, does your PS1 even have a modchip?

Yes, it's modded. My PS is the model with the parallel port behind, SCPH-7502.
