SCPH-1002 motor not working.

Post by araya » November 14th, 2015, 3:55 am

Hello,

Just dug up my old SCPH-1002 console from attic. It powers fine to a cd player/memory card menu. However, there's a problem with cd motor. Power on with cd tray button pressed down, I can see the laser move up and down couple of times, but the motor makes a clicking noise once, not the usual spins. I tried it with cd unit from PSOne (SCPH-102) also, same thing with that too. And both cd units work on that SCPH-102 model...

I searched the net, but only found bias/gain adjustment specs, which I think are not the problem here.

Anyone ideas for the cure?

CN702 (pin 12) should have 3.5V. If it does not, check the resistor near pin 12 for open circuit. If so then replace it.
Check PS603 for continuity too, and check IC732 and IC722 as it may need to be replaced or Q609 (the 3.5V regulator). Also check IC704, IC305 and IC706. These numbers are for newer models, but they will give you an idea of where to look on the 1002.
Development Console: SCPH-5502 with 8MB RAM, MM3 Modchip, PAL 60 Colour Modification (for NTSC), PSIO Switch Board, DB-9 breakout headers for both RGB and Serial output and an Xplorer with CAETLA 0.34.

PlayStation Development PC: Windows 98 SE, Pentium 3 at 400MHz, 128MB SDRAM, DTL-H2000, DTL-H2010, DTL-H201A, DTL-S2020 (with 4GB SCSI-2 HDD), 21" Sony G420, CD-R burner, 3.25" and 5.25" Floppy Diskette Drives, ZIP 100 Diskette Drive and an IBM Model M keyboard.
