Hello I am new here! I have been collecting a few PS1's in the last month. One is a SCPH-5501, the other a 9001. I received my 5501 in the mail today, plugged it in and noticed that there is a bit of noise in the picture that I don't get with my 9001. It's almost like flickering or waves, think like jacob's ladder (but not really). My 9001 is crystal-clear comparatively. I am using an official Sony S-video cable (made for PS2/PS3).
Is this a known or fixable issue? Perhaps a capacitor replacement? I plan on installing an XStation in this SCPH-5501.

You'll have to replace the video capacitors (drifted out of spec), which are all clustered around the multiout. Console5 sells them, so might as well recap the whole board.
Doing so fixed my video noise issues on a 5501 as well.

Thanks for the information. It really helped me!
