What type of modchip is this? (PU-8)

Post by ady05113 » April 27th, 2020, 7:32 pm

Hi guys, i need help to identify what type of modchip is this. This was found inside SCPH-3500 that my friend gave me. By the way, the motherboard is faulty. If the modchip is good i might want swap it with my current old crow modchip installed inside my SCPH-1002. Anything special about this chip compared to MM3 and any other chips?

Thanks in advance and stay safe guys!

That looks like the OldCrow type which was used in the SCPH-100x series a lot. There's no chip number?
Development Console: SCPH-5502 with 8MB RAM, MM3 Modchip, PAL 60 Colour Modification (for NTSC), PSIO Switch Board, DB-9 breakout headers for both RGB and Serial output and an Xplorer with CAETLA 0.34.

PlayStation Development PC: Windows 98 SE, Pentium 3 at 400MHz, 128MB SDRAM, DTL-H2000, DTL-H2010, DTL-H201A, DTL-S2020 (with 4GB SCSI-2 HDD), 21" Sony G420, CD-R burner, 3.25" and 5.25" Floppy Diskette Drives, ZIP 100 Diskette Drive and an IBM Model M keyboard.

Unfortunately the chip number can't be seen anymore. BTW i did swap the chip with my old crow inside scph-1002 and it refuse to boot disc. It just kicked me into memory card @ cd player screen (tried using gran turismo NTSC/J version) and asking for Playstation disc to be inserted. But then i tested using Parappa the Rapper NTSC/J. It kicked me automatically into the cd player and it can play the music but refused to start the game only able to listen to tracks inside the game.

So i guess the chip itself is faulty or maybe the code inside chip can't bypass the region lock.
