After one year of full time work, I present to you my next game for our beloved Playstation 1,
an RPG called "Zia and the Goddesses of Magic"

In a world where magic is Queen, people lived happily and safely under the protection of the ten guardian goddesses.
Out of the unknown came a powerful demon who brought trouble upon the world, and all the goddesses got captured and locked away.
Evil creatures started to take hold of the nearby villages and threatened the inhabitants.

Zia is a little girl who lives in a village in the mountains with her parents.
When she was younger, she discovered by chance a spell book and started to practice magic.

One day, an old wise man came from the mountain and asked Zia's parents for shelter for one night.
At the dinner table, he told Zia about the existence of several spell books spread around the world.
Zia got very interested and begged her parents to let her go and look for these books to learn more about magic spells.

During her journey, Zia will discover the trapped goddesses.
Now is your chance to help her rescue the goddesses from the evil creatures by casting magic spells!

This looks awesome. Well done Orion!
I may pre-order it, but if not when it's released I will for sure.

IMO: You should do something special for pre-orders.. or why would people preorder?
limited, signature addition.. shelf collectors/investors, love that shite, i don't know.. or not

buying preorder is a way to show your interest in the game and support the developer.
On Dreamcast, people often preorder a game and the game is released years after ...
(I don't like that way, but it seems to work ...)
I make preorder on the ps1 version only, because I want to know how many people are really interested
in the past I made a production of Yopaz IceStar for PS1, a puzzle game,
It took me about 2 years to sell ... 20 copies :/
so I wonder how many copy of Zia I should make .. 20 or 50 or more ?
right now I have less than 20 potential buyers, so If I have some preorders, I will make more, if not, then I will make 20 or 25 only ..

oh that's not a pre-order, sounds like a first run?
and that's not really a Dreamcast thing... your talking about kickstarter or crowdfunding.. a social thing :/
Yip, dreamcast, is shelf collector-nish, they buy everything that moves!, like NES really!

A pre-order is this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-order

Edit: also, and more importantly the reason why DC, NES, Jag etc etc are popular is because their not using propriety SDK's
I imagine, if you collected a few $K's for the game, the owners of the dev kit's would be knocking on your door
PSX has PSXSDK on github, I haven't used it.

And those systems require little to no mods to play homebrew, the PSX wobble I doubt will ever be beaten without a mod chip etc... but you already know all that

PSX is sadly a long forgotten platform for most people, even for retro gamers. If I were you and sales were sort of important, I would focus my efforts on other, more popular platforms, and then try to port them to PS1 if it doesn't take too much time.

IMHO, I find ~30 US$ to be a bit expensive. I know there's a ton of effort behind this, but the main goal about homebrew development is not to recover the investment, but to get known as much as possible.

Keep going on, Orion. Never give up! ;)

I decided to work full time on producing my games, so it's not an homebrew game, it's my full time job.
also, I invested about 2000$ and one year of development on this project, and even if I sold all the copy I will produce (including dreamcast) it won't even pay my rent and food for 3 months, I guess this is the last time I work so long on a project, from now on I will focuse on 3 months projects, not more
Doing a huge game like this on my free time would takes years, just like roll boss rush which is more than 5 years old and still not finished

Orion, I'm impressed, still making commercial games for the PS1, now that's some serious dedication, holy cow. I know every now and again a new Dreamcast game comes out, but didn't realize anyone was still releasing anything but straight up free homebrew for the ps1/psx etc. That's awesome, keep up the good work, I like the disclaimer at the top of the original playstation section about needing a modchip or boot disc to play lol. Until I saw that I was thinking "how in the world was he able to press or splice this?" haha. Still that's pretty awesome. I might place an order soon for this :)

The problem is you need to design and find a game that would do very well on the console in today's modern and over-flooded indie game market.

Maybe something like Resident Evil 2 but without the puzzles and way more gore :P
Once you've got a small demo/prototype going, throw it on KickStarter and see how it does...

Shadow > I don't think so, since I sell 10 times more on Dreamcast than on PS1 for the same game.
I hate gore, and 3D is way too much work on the PS1.
I think the PS1 suffer from it's protection system.
modchip can't be installed easy nowadays.
