PSX Serial Cable

I have a quantity of PSX link cables that I recently acquired and wondered if any users would like to purchase a pre-made USB cable for use with PSX Serial.

Would be something like this but with the PCB having a form of cable restraint and heatshrink to protect the PCB.

I'm not looking to make a fortune as such, just provide a service.

The above solution does not work with SIOCONS, as it is not wired for handshaking.

I intend to make one for SIOCONS which would be more expensive as I would need to either..

a) retrofit the RTS/CTS and DTR/DSR pins to the above and add 7400 series to invert handshaking, more time and would involve directly soldering to the QFN USB UART chip - tricky.

b) use a more expensive FTDI232 module with full handshaking, which also doesnt need the 7400 due to being able to adjust the settings with FTDIprog.

I will also if wanted make either a kit or premodified PAL motherboards for PSOne.

Just depends on how cheap I can source parts.

Just a quick update.

Sold a few of these now and they work very well. They are currently priced at 13.50UKP including postage to most of Europe.

I have a prototype siocons cable which looks the same as above but works very well with the yaroze environment in dosbox.

These will be available from next week.

I'm interested in buying one of these. How/where do you accept payment? Do you ship to the US/Canada?

I take PayPal or bank transfer. Can ship to US or Canada no problem at all. Price for the standard PSXSERIAL cable to US/Canada would be 15.50UKP including shipping by Airmail (typically around 5 days)

Payment by PayPal is as a gift or add 3percent to cover fees.

Drop me a PM if you want to order one.

I just got one of these cables, it works great.
The installation is very quick, the drivers are downloadable from a link on Dan's blog.

The Windows driver works. The Linux driver they provide is waaay outdated and should be ignored. The latest driver is already present as module cp210x in the Linux kernel so it works out of the box.

Also thanks for the fast shipping :-)

I'd like to buy one of these. I already have a Net Yaroze cable but it appears to be faulty as bi-directional functionality doesn't seem to be working. The console detects the PC, the PC does not detect the console :( . Tried on multiple PC's/consoles/operating systems. Tried a pure serial COM port on an old Windows XP tower as well as modern Serial-to-USB adapter on a modern PC. Still doesn't work. No obvious signs of damage/missing wires inside either.
So... if you still have some of these custom cables in stock, could I buy one?
Sam

Hello. If you wanted to for some reason, could you use this as a USB charging cable if you made the USB a female end? Thank you!

No you couldn't. The power for the circuit comes from the USB port of the connected computer. It isn't wired to take power from the PlayStation SIO port.

This is really interesting, can you explain what could I do with this cable? Thanks and sorry for my lack of knowledge :D

You should be able to make one easily using a 3.3v USB TTL adapter and either butchering a PS1 link cable or salvaging a link cable connector from a dead PS1 and use a link cable to connect the TTL adapter to your PS1.

If you're using the cable butcher method make sure the Tx and Rx wires are crossed but keep it straight if you're using the link cable connector method as the cable already crosses those lines.

I'm in the same boat as these guys. If these aren't being made anymore - are there step-by-step tutorials on how to go about making them? Thanks.

Plenty of guides around and if anyone wants one still drop me a message. I have a few cables left.

Prices have changed a little and need to check.

Hello, sorry, I do not know if it is appropriate to speak here.
On this forum, where can I find an installation diagram for soldering concerns the PSXSERIAL in USB? Thanks! I am thinking of buying a link cable and then the FTDI to USB converter, that's all!
