Weird effects from scratched game disks

Post by leafy » October 11th, 2020, 9:34 am

I guess it is from old scratched original game disks, but I have a couple of old games that behave strangely on any system. Very strange is Ape Escape. When you boot it, then go to the memory card to load a game, the d-pad right doesn't respond. The game does this on more than one console, and the d-pad works fine otherwise.

Then there is Spyro (2):Ripto's Rage, it starts to play the audio tracks, then quits. Like on the menu, a snare drum starts, the stops. The entire game is silent as far as music, so it is odd.

We have more than one copy of these games, and the other copies (one is a greatest hits version instead) works fine.

So, it must be the scratches. Even without that, these old PSX games have interesting glitches.
