Quality of life mod

Post by Velast » December 24th, 2019, 7:59 pm

Hello psxdev community, I'm Velast and I have a problem that only someone familiar with psx hacking/programming could help me with so I figured this should be a good place to ask for help. Some of my favorite PS1 games( Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII and especially Xenogears), cause great physical discomfort when I play for an extended period of time. For those unfamiliar with these games; whenever you land a critical hit, the screen flashes brightly. Unfortunately, this effect is very taxing on my eyes and causes severe eye strain. Xenogears is the worst offender; the screen flashes whenever you hit an enemy, critical or not. So my question is; is there someone who'd be willing to help me out with this by disabling that screen flash effect? If you have a Paypal account, I will gladly donate, but please keep in mind I'm still in college so as you can imagine, my budget is limited. Playing Xenogears pain-free would be a dream come true!

Coding that out would be tricky, but I assume they have a separate function jump which simply flashes the screen. You'd have to dissemble the EXE, set a breakpoint and find what routine is responsible for those flashes.
Development Console: SCPH-5502 with 8MB RAM, MM3 Modchip, PAL 60 Colour Modification (for NTSC), PSIO Switch Board, DB-9 breakout headers for both RGB and Serial output and an Xplorer with CAETLA 0.34.

PlayStation Development PC: Windows 98 SE, Pentium 3 at 400MHz, 128MB SDRAM, DTL-H2000, DTL-H2010, DTL-H201A, DTL-S2020 (with 4GB SCSI-2 HDD), 21" Sony G420, CD-R burner, 3.25" and 5.25" Floppy Diskette Drives, ZIP 100 Diskette Drive and an IBM Model M keyboard.

Thank you for your response, Shadow! Believe me, I'd do that right know, but I don't know the first thing about coding and unfortunately, I'm not smart enough to learn it on my own.
