Thanks for the offer, Xrider, I appreciate it... but I can't quite afford such a thing right now.

I mean, I'm from NTSC territory. I take it the STU allows for region-switching maybe?

I bought my 5501 for it's superior DAC, and since the 5502 uses the same one (AFAIK) your offer is rather enticing.

Is it possible for me to sweeten the deal by offering a "trade"? As in, I offer my 5501 motherboard sent to you so you can own it and you send the modded 5502 motherboard to me, but at a discounted price?

If not, I don't really see myself getting this to be honest. Thanks again for the offer, though.

Ah, V4.50. We don't have that dumped. Try and dump it if you can :)

Here's something that should work for your Windows 7 x86 setup.
As mentionned you'll need a DB25 M/F cable like this:
Image

Get the attached file and extract it.
Connect your Xploder to your computer's LPT port using the cable.
Plug your cartridge to your console and power it on.
Run x-killer as administrator else it won't work properly.

Tools -> ROM Manager -> Detect
If everything goes right it should be detected, possibly as an unknown rom but it doesn't matter.
Hit "Backup", enter any name and hit "Save", it should download the rom file.
You may dump it a few time just to make sure and post the resulting files here.

When done i'll then guide you to install Nocash bios to your cartridge using that setup. ;)

Alright! Thanks for the reply, Square. I'll follow your advice and try to dump my cart for you guys using what you suggested. Do you know where I can find cheap DB25 M/F cable? I was thinking about ordering one through Wal-Mart.

EDIT: Just Downloaded and ran X-Killer as administrator. It boots up fine.

Behold: my first contribution to this site! I actually had to go out and buy a DB25 cable at a thrift store. Once I hooked it up to my computer I followed your steps, and I successfully dumped the ROM!

I dumped the ROM twice just to be safe, so the second ROM in the folder is a copy.

You guys feel free to inspect the attached ROM to make sure it is a viable dump. Your welcome.

Nice work! Appreciated. I can confirm that both dumps are the same (the CRC32's are identical). Now you can re-flash the cartridge with whatever ROM you want without worrying about losing the original ROM it came with :)
Development Console: SCPH-5502 with 8MB RAM, MM3 Modchip, PAL 60 Colour Modification (for NTSC), PSIO Switch Board, DB-9 breakout headers for both RGB and Serial output and an Xplorer with CAETLA 0.34.

PlayStation Development PC: Windows 98 SE, Pentium 3 at 400MHz, 128MB SDRAM, DTL-H2000, DTL-H2010, DTL-H201A, DTL-S2020 (with 4GB SCSI-2 HDD), 21" Sony G420, CD-R burner, 3.25" and 5.25" Floppy Diskette Drives, ZIP 100 Diskette Drive and an IBM Model M keyboard.

Many thanks for the dump, highly appreciated indeed ! :)
I flashed it on my dual banked FX model and it seems to work just fine.
It doesn't crash like the previous bad dump we had when editing/deleting some cheat codes.

Get attached file and extract its content into your X-Killer folder:

"Xploder FX (Germany) r4.50 PRO 1999-10-25.exe"
This is your rom dump backup installer.

"Xplorer FX (England) r4.52 PRO 1999-11-22.exe"
This is the latest UK rom installer in case you want it (currently set to PAL).

"no$psx bios v2.0.exe"
This is Nocash BIOS Expansion ROM Installer

"xrun_1FF.bin"
This file is needed for X-Killer to upload exe on your cartridge.

If you want to flash your backup or the UK rom, do the following:
Run X-Killer as administrator then:
Tools -> Other -> Upload PSX-EXE -> Select your backup.exe or the UK rom.exe -> Open
Upload should start and when complete you should get Nocash's flasher to boot.
Follow on screen infos.
As long as you have either your rom dump or the UK rom flashed you can still use X-Killer to switch from one to the other.

If you want to flash Nocash's BIOS rom, do the following:
Run X-Killer as administrator then:
Tools -> Other -> Upload PSX-EXE -> Select "no$psx bios v2.0.exe" -> Open
Upload should start and when complete you should get Nocash's flasher to boot.
Follow on screen infos.
WARNING
Once you have Nocash Bios rom flashed you won't be able to use X-Killer anymore to revert
.

You'll be able to use no$psx instead but it will require you to first perform this simple 1 wire mod to your cartridge.
Just follow Shadow's pictures to get the solder points (the switch is optional).

Usage:
no$psx-> "Utility" -> "Upload to PSX" to send the provided executable(s).

This should cover all your needs. :)

I'm glad I could make a contribution, guys!

Alright, then. I flashed the nocash BIOS to my PS1 and now I can play burned CD-Rs! I can also play VCDs, (I got one from a thrift store but it seems defective. Oh well.) With this BIOS, I'll be able to do all kinds of stuff!

Thank you so much guys for helping me, and I'm glad I could help you all too. :D
