Video IDU test v1.1 disc

Didnt really know where to post this, so if it needs moving apologies...

I've got a few copies of this lying around, and never really seen it anywhere for download, so thought stuff it I will rip it. It came with a device that connects to the joypad port, and basically mimics a digital pad using a PIC micro and allows you to wire buttons up, so you can use an arcade cabinet. I assume its the demo software that ran in the kiosk machines you used to see in games stores.

The video files on there look pretty similar to the videos on the Demo One disc that came with the early Playstation machines here in the UK (Ridge Racer, Toshinden etc).

Image

Is anyone interested in it? I was going to upload it here but am unsure if its possible or allowed?

Thanks

Dan

EDIT: Ive uploaded it here for now :- https://uploadfiles.io/3lzdf

Enjoy

Always allowed to upload stuff like that here. We want everything to do with the PSX copied and preserved, hacked and reversed.

What's this demo even do. It just loops the DEMO 1 video over and over. I assume it was for kiosks like you said. It may have also been used to calibrate lasers, but I doubt it. They had a separate disc for that.

It does just do that, I also believe it records the amount of times each video has been played to a memory card. I havent seen that myself but I saw that information somewhere else.

I will get some pics up of the device that came with it too. Its made by a British company that I believe used to be an official Sony partner for reconditioning Playstations back in the day.

It might be worth uploading that file here somewhere before the link goes.

Hello, sorry to bump this post nearly 2 years on, do you still have these discs? I have acquired a demonstration unit and I think this CD goes with it.

Hello and welcome,

I will check later today for you, if not I still have two of the original CD's and can redump them if needed.

Out of interest, does your demo unit have the white box that interfaces the controls to the control port? I just wondered as I have two of those too.

Thank you, if you are not willing to sell one of the CD’s then I would really like a dump file please.
Yes the unit has the interface like you explained, on the front of the unit are 20 front covers for different games, underneath each game is a button all cabled with flat ribbon that connects directly into the interface that converts into the controller lead.

I have no idea how much they are worth to be honest. I am quite happy to just dump one for you, they are the PAL version (unsure if there is an NTSC version).

I actually got the disc, and the controller adapter along with a Sony refurbished SCPH-1002 years ago. Someone on eBay had a load of them for sale for £30 boxed so picked two up. The controller adapter board is made by a UK company (info.. something, cant remember the exact name, and it used a PIC 16x micro to emulate a controller. Think it had a 50pin IDC connector.

Leave it with me and will dump it for you over the weekend. Ill host it somewhere better or upload it here.

Everything needs a bit of a clean, I have boxed it up and kept dry until I can put it on display.

Yes I have that interface box:

Thanks, have you got the disc to play on a Ps1 using a controller for the menu?
As I have read that you need the memory card for the disc to play.

All it does is loop the DEMO 1 intro video over and over, and I noticed that there's a padding file in there which could be deleted which would decrease the filesize. For some reason there are also heaps of other blank STR files. Probably to edit it in the future to remaster it with more videos. The disc isn't anything special to be honest. Could have easily been remade from scratch in about half an hour. I'll keep it saved on my HDD though for historical purposes.

Yeah its not very interesting really, the demo reel reminded me of the Demo One disc I got with launch PlayStation.

Funny one on the memory card though. I remember reading someone saying it wrote some data to the memory card but I never saw any evidence of this when testing.
