Any plans for an official Discord Server?

Post by MyNewSoundtrack » August 9th, 2017, 3:25 am

Hey guys!

I think a Discord server would be a really nice idea since those are amazing for devs.

We could have different channels and sections just like on this forum.

What do you guys think? I would gladly set up everything if enough people are interested.

(Unless there's one already, in which case please invite me  )

Discord is new-school. We use IRC :)
Development Console: SCPH-5502 with 8MB RAM, MM3 Modchip, PAL 60 Colour Modification (for NTSC), PSIO Switch Board, DB-9 breakout headers for both RGB and Serial output and an Xplorer with CAETLA 0.34.

PlayStation Development PC: Windows 98 SE, Pentium 3 at 400MHz, 128MB SDRAM, DTL-H2000, DTL-H2010, DTL-H201A, DTL-S2020 (with 4GB SCSI-2 HDD), 21" Sony G420, CD-R burner, 3.25" and 5.25" Floppy Diskette Drives, ZIP 100 Diskette Drive and an IBM Model M keyboard.

IRC is better, I am on discord and I dislike it.
Development Console: SCPH-102, unkown clone Modchip, PAL , FTDI board build into the case (microUSB) for Serial I/O.
Development Computer: GNU/Linux, Arch x86_64 Linux 4.20.3, i7-3632QM [8x3.2GHz], 11,8GiB, 1366x768 GeForce GT 630M (Optimus tech), lots of gig of storage

You can do that on IRC but you need a bouncer.
Otherwise, this is a good solution that works: http://www.psxdev.net/irclog.php

-1 for discord cause logging all previous chats is hard, its API is bad and IRC is there already for so long, all kinds of tools are availeble to log, search and backup. also works on all kind of systems, and probably a PS1irc client is posible. (I need a bouncer Thx Shadow, I forgot the name of what I need)

A PSX IRC client is actually very possible. I was thinking about making one as well as a PSX keyboard adaptor (like the SCPH-2000). One of the many things on my project list ;)

Speaking of such devices, there was a WordPerfect system for word processing on the PSX. You could hook up a Lexmark printer via the serial port and actually print from your PSX. Those serial and parallel ports can do anything really. The PlayStation 1 is a remarkable system to work with :D

I have a nice small Plotter for MSX computers, im sure im able to control it from the PS1 one day. Wordperfect probably aswell, if I can get the plotter to accept printcommands over serial.

Too many ideas, so little time (or money... mostly time to get money to get projects done) Ill be asking about your projects statuses when I get IRC working and some of my projects done ;)
