Re: PS2linux hosting PSXSDK with USBSIO
Sweet! I tried compiling runic under Ubuntu to no avail, I couldn't tell you the exact error off hand (I'm on my phone), but I can post a screenshot when I get a chance. Just keep in mind I'm an engineering student so my free time is almost nonexistent, but whenever I have the time to spare, bill be ...

I didn't realize you were the dev behind unirom, sicklebrick! Thanks for such an awesome tool, I wish my latest psx had a parallel port so I could take advantage of this!

Re: PadTest
The program would have to be rewritten from the ground up with a ps2 compatible SDK as ulaunchelf runs in ps2 mode and cannot access or run anything anything ps1 related. When the ps2 is booted in either mode (using a game or w/e there's no switching modes without rebooting the console....

Re: Strange Game Hunter cartridge
If the cart firmware doesn't allow a safe swap, then the only way to use it to boot imports and backups is to flash it with custom firmware using Unirom (either caetla, which allows swapping) or there's some newer sort of firmware out now that allows backup and import booting without swapping, it di...

Re: Overclocked my Playstation Today!
well as described above and I think also in my video, it appears that loading times have been halved, but without another unmodded console to run side by side with it for benchmarking purposes I can't say exactly... Its pretty neat actually though. No actual decompression going on, its just forcing ...

Re: Strange Wires
It looks like you have a stealth chip (judging by the amount of wires coming out of it) so it should play pretty much any game you throw at it, burned or imported. Although if you try and play an import that outputs a video signal that's different than what your tv can handle (mainly if you have an ...

Re: Overclocked my Playstation Today!
Okay so for all intents and purposes the retail units have 2mb that's usable (not counting vram) is this correct? Also I was digging threw old threads on here and found this: http://www.psxdev.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=488&hilit=8mb+ram which I think is where my confusion came from abou...

Re: Overclocked my Playstation Today!
Really!? I thought it had 8mb lol. Shows what I know :P. So I take it the retail units have 1mb then? As for the heat sink, ya i'm gonna go for it, i'd rather not drive my psx into the ground if I can help it :P. Back in the day, I know some people even went as far as adding fans to their psx/psone/...

Re: Overclocked my Playstation Today!
Yeah, games are still working, but with some level of glitching. Like some homebrew and retail games run entirely in black and white, while others have faded colors and what not. My console is NTSC and i'm experiencing the issue with NTSC games on it as well (my tv is an old NTSC CRT from "back...

Overclocked my Playstation Today!
So the 30 day return policy on my psx from ebay finally expired the other day. So today, I cracked open my scph-9001 and decided to do the overclock mod. I did it without a switch too #yolo lol. I was too impatient to wait til I get over to my local ratshack (yes some are still open here in the stat...

Re: Compiling Runix
I've dealt with some other console based linux projects in the past, nothing on the psx at all, but i'm willing to give it a shot. Any chance you could upload the kernel executable so I can take a look at it? UPDATE: I'm currently looking to get this compiled on my own while I await your response. U...

BUMP Seeing as the MM3 is so cheap right now here: http://www.eurasia.nu/shop/product_info.php?cPath=52&products_id=276 I think i'm just going to pick this up instead. I'll use the arduino for something else. In the meantime I'm using a PS-X-Change v2 disc for dev stuff :p EDIT: So I decided to ...

Whoa, I didn't realize the psx had any sort of proper kernel (for its time), I figured everything ran on "bare metal" like most consoles from that era. Very interesting....

Re: Audio problems on original Japanese PSX
In this case I would try reflowing the SPU (heating up the solder on ic legs and try to fix any bad connections. If that doesn't do the trick I would reball it (completely desolder the ic, clean it and the area around it up and resolder it cleanly). Its a lot if work but given how cheap psx's are th...

Re: Audio problems on original Japanese PSX
I'm also in the US. I could attempt the repair for you shipping would be cheaper that way at least and less time to wait (no customs etc). EDIT: You would just have to pay for shipping both ways. These consoles are a dime a dozen these days to replace so its not really worth charging you anything fo...
