Re: [Hardware Mod] 8MB in (PU-18) Retail PSX

Update: I have performed the upgrade and wire work on the bottom of the board. The console appears to be working perfectly normal so I believe this *could* potentially be a complete success using the above-mentioned "MT4LC2M8E7TG-6 S" ICs. Unfortunately I haven't yet managed to get PSXSER...

Re: Missing Access Card

Hi there, New poster to the forum; just wondering does anyone know of a solution for a missing access card? Is it possible to modify a stock PS1 memory card to act as a Net Yaroze Access Card? Or is there some other solution other than waiting for a few years for an access card to show up on ebay? ...

Re: [Hardware Mod] 8MB in (PU-18) Retail PSX

I plan to try out this mod with a similar tactic- buying a SODIMM stick with potentially compatible ICs and desoldering them with a hot air station. The specific stick I've ordered is labled "HYMIB20016 IBM EQUIV 92G7341 16MB 144PIN EDO SODIMM". It's double-sided with four ICs per side. G...

Re: Old 160pin GPU Pinout & Rendering Differences

The CPU date code seems to be week 14, 1996 - which given the manufacture date of the unit suggests it's been replaced at some point.

There is also an AQ CPU stepping which I've only ever seen on PU-7 boards from SCPH-1000s

Re: Psy-Q SDK Legal Status

Well, I think actually Psy-Q has violated copyright law as well. I think ccpsx is based on gnucc. gnucc's license mentions that anyone asking for the source of ccpsx should get it for free, and that they have the right to redistribute it too. I don't know about the other tools included in the SDK. ...

Re: SCPH-1001 weird PCB module

hey TriMesh, thanks for the reply, i asked about this board in the discord #hardware channel and was told the same thing, i guess its pretty rare, i haven't seen one before. Yeah, I think by the time the PlayStation came out the TVs that used the specific sync separator circuit that had a problem w...

Re: SCPH-1001 weird PCB module

It's an official modification carried out by Sony. There were some TVs (notably some Zenith models) that didn't like the sync the PlayStation produced and that board changed the way the composite sync was produced to fix the problem. If you phoned up the service line and complained that the image on...

Re: PSone - What kind of mod is this?

Yeah, that makes sense - in that case presumably there is an IR receiver somewhere and that little board is just reading the IR stream and simulating pushing buttons on the controller.

Re: PSone - What kind of mod is this?

Yeah, it's a Video CD player board - the CL680 is one of the original single-chip VCD player devices. I suspect that board marked "PS2DVD" is a modchip and the marking is just camoflage. The wires connected to the memory card socket are so the board can read the controller - the pins for t...

Re: DTL-H1101 Laser replacment..?

At this point, unfortunately most of the CD drive mechanisms available on places like eBay are basically junk. The production stopped a long time ago and anything that gets put together now is most likely going to be using parts that are either recycled or were rejected back in the day for some reas...

Re: Which replacement laser for which revision?

It's easiest to base in on the main board type. PU-7 and PU-8 machines used either KSM-440AAM or KSM-440ACM PU-18 and PU-20 used KSM-440ADM PU-20 and PU-22 used KSM-440AEM PSone used KSM-440BAM You can freely interchange KSM-440AAM, KSM-440ACM and KSM-440BAM because the cables are the same The KSM-4...

One interesting thing is that it's using a mask-programmed 68HC05 - which would normally imply these were made in quite large quantities. Makes you wonder where they all went.

That looks more like a linker error than anything from the preprocessor.

You can try looking on Orion's website at http://onorisoft.free.fr/psx/tutorial/tuto.htm - he's got some helpful information on how to develop for the PSX using less ancient OSes :)

Re: Disc burning problems

The lockups when running Unirom sounds like a weak optical drive. I would tend to say the other stuff is related to the drive too, but I can't explain the problems with running the images in an emulator that way. One thing to note is that the CD drive in the PSX is an old design and has a fixed gain...

Re: Seeking service manuals/hardware information

There is no pinout for the GTE, because it's not a separate chip. It's implemented as part of the main CPU, and it's not even possible to monitor the signals to it because it's on the R3K coprocessor bus which isn't bought out to pins on the package. Thanks very much for the information. I meant th...

I've never been able to find one. There is a a cleaned up and more legible version of the manual that was done by nocash: http://www.psxdev.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=1312&p=12998&hilit=SCPH+5500#p12998 There is no pinout for the GTE, because it's not a separate chip. It's implemente...

Re: How to properly send commands to the CD controller (low-level)

You always have to wait for the int before sending another command or it just gets dropped on the floor. If the last int hasn't been cleared, the HC05 just throws the command away.

Yeah, you can just connect it to the WR/ signal on the CPU - note that there are 2 of them and the one you want is SWR0/, which is on pin 100 of the CPU.

Re: Modchip suggestion for PSOne with bios 4.1

Thanks i'll try that. Still i was wondering if one was better than the others. They are all pretty much equivalent in this application - the part of the code that carries out the actual modchip function is the same. For a non-PAL console, there is no need to connect the wire from pin 3 of the PIC t...
