Re: tonyhax - PS1 softmod backup loader thing using THPS2/3

Interesting… I might be wrong, but I remember reading years ago that the anti-modchip code supposedly works by asking the CD drive to read the wobble code whilst the laser is positioned over one of the regular data sectors (i.e. at a position where the wobble check should fail), and – if the wo...

Re: Laser for DTL-H1200?

Short answer: yes. Any SCPH-100x laser can be swapped in, as well as the PSOne laser if you swap the plastic assembly too. Long answer and background: The debug units were designed by Sony to be as close as possible to retail units applicable to the regions they were intended for. The *only* differe...

Re: About a serious security issue with the forum

I believe the reason HTTPS is not enabled for this site is because it would render it innaccessible on older browsers that cannot use modern SSL ciphers. A lot of the PSX era of programs (such as the PsyQ SDK) and the hardware (using ISA slots) only work properly on older operating systems/hardware,...

Re: [Hardware Mod] 8MB in (PU-18) Retail PSX

Update: I have performed the upgrade and wire work on the bottom of the board. The console appears to be working perfectly normal so I believe this *could* potentially be a complete success using the above-mentioned "MT4LC2M8E7TG-6 S" ICs. Unfortunately I haven't yet managed to get PSXSERI...

Re: [Hardware Mod] 8MB in (PU-18) Retail PSX

I've had a quick look, and I can't see any reason those parts shouldn't work. The only thing I would recommend is testing the module before removing the chips if you can, because 90's Micron memory tended to have a rather high failure rate. Thanks for pointing that out. Sadly I don't have a laptop ...

Re: [Hardware Mod] 8MB in (PU-18) Retail PSX

I plan to try out this mod with a similar tactic- buying a SODIMM stick with potentially compatible ICs and desoldering them with a hot air station. The specific stick I've ordered is labled "HYMIB20016 IBM EQUIV 92G7341 16MB 144PIN EDO SODIMM". It's double-sided with four ICs per side. Go...

Re: [RPG] Zia and the Goddesses of Magic

Just ordered this myself! Just to let you know: I shall be ripping it into CD image format to place it on my PSIO cartridge for convenience, but I certainly will not be uploading it anywhere! It's a shame you've gone to so much time and effort to develop a brand new PS1 game but can't make up even c...

Re: DTL-H1001H

Hmm, so this could be a prototype board intended for internal Sony use, that makes sense. I will try to take some better photos tonight, I'm going to be rehousing the unit anyway. The case is very brittle on the top. From a user perspective, the late PU-8 boards with the SGRAM GPU and space for two ...

Re: DTL-H1001H

Yeah, I am aware that the HC05 IC can easily be swapped out with a hot air station (did this myself not so long ago from a broken DTL-H1000 onto a generic SCPH-1000 PU-7 board because the audio circuit appeared to be corroded). What is strange is that I've never seen a PU-8 board with dedicated S-Vi...

DTL-H1001H

I do not know where this should be posted (feel free to move it) but I recently obtained a DTL-H1001H and noticed that nobody appears to have dumped the BIOS for it yet. I have therefore done this using shendo's BIOS Dumper CD and a PSX-SERIAL USB cable. I have no idea if this is a unique BIOS or no...

Re: Possible to convert a PAL psx to NTSC?

To fully convert a PAL board to NTSC (and vice versa) you would need to swap two or three components from a donor board. The BIOS ROM IC (as this sets the default boot colour mode) the oscillator to generate the right frequency and the CD ROM firmware IC (if you want to run original discs without a ...

Re: Duplicating the offical 12v DC Power supply?

I have a DTL-H1102 and can also do this if you like. I can also confirm that it also uses an internal 7-pin socket with the same schematic. I use this to my advantage by temporarily swapping it into SCPH-1002's when callibrating the lasers- it's far safer than having dangerous voltages near my hand ...

Re: PSX Serial Cable

I'd like to buy one of these. I already have a Net Yaroze cable but it appears to be faulty as bi-directional functionality doesn't seem to be working. The console detects the PC, the PC does not detect the console :( . Tried on multiple PC's/consoles/operating systems. Tried a pure serial COM port ...
