Re: UniROM 8.0.C - CartDetector, AR/GS V2 Support, ExHandler, etc

https://github.com/brad-lin/FreePSXBoot/ Looks like we can soon get Unirom booting from just a memory card. No game exploit or cart in the back required! Right now the github repo has support for the PSOne Slim. But the exploit should still exist in most of the older models so it's only a matter of ...

Re: UniROM 8.0.C - CartDetector, AR/GS V2 Support, ExHandler, etc

Ok got a DexDrive so now I can dump/read roms from Memory card once support for it is out. I'm pretty sure given that the MC Pro emulates real memory cards that the way you interact with memory cards will pretty much be the same between real ones and the emulated ones on MC Pro. :D

Re: UniROM 8.0.C - CartDetector, AR/GS V2 Support, ExHandler, etc

Hmm the mcpro is looking expensive. But DexDrives look to still be reletively cheap on Amazon (A PS1 memcard to serial port device with special software to transfer saves to PC). Supposedly the software for the device still work on modern OS but I have my trusty old Presario 486 with Win95 and an Co...

Re: UniROM 8.0.C - CartDetector, AR/GS V2 Support, ExHandler, etc

Just noticed a new third party memory card coming out soon for PS1. It's called the MemCard Pro (from 8BitMods) and apparently be able to store virtual memcard containers on a standard sd card. I was thinking once that's out and you get your hands on one, you can add support for dumping cart roms to...

Re: UniROM 8.0.6 "Minty" - Improved CD loading, Improved SIO->TTY, Instructions, Debug Core

I'm kinda thinking what I'll do as a solution for a custom serial cable is instead of destroying a perfectly good serial link cable is I can instead go the big brain route and buy a dead PS1 mobo of eBay, desolder the serial port and solder a few short wires direct from the USB serial dongle to the ...

Re: UniROM 8.0.6 "Minty" - Improved CD loading, Improved SIO->TTY, Instructions, Debug Core

I think a normal cable used for things like ZIP drives and scanners should work. BUT some carts required a special ISA card installed in the PC and have the parallel cable going to that instead from what I've read? I've been wanting to dump my Code Card cart too (rom menu goes by Gold Finger). I hap...

Re: UniROM 8 (2nd beta's released!)

if your lucky it will be the same as mine. Mine has a Code Card sticker but the firmware had Gold Finger at the bottom in the original UI. So it probably uses same eeprom that mine did and Unirom 8 recently added support for mine. if not you can see if he can add support for it if you take a photo o...

Re: UniROM 8 (2nd beta's released!)

Time to find out if burning at 1x really has any benefit for PS1 Long story short... It doesn't. lol sadly you are correct. My 1x burned CD-Rs perform worse then the 8x ones I burn from the newer 2000s era LG CD burner in my modern machine. But at least I can compile Unirom and burn it to CD on the...

Re: UniROM 8 (2nd beta's released!)

Finally found an old CD burner at a reasonable price. A Mitsumi CR-4802TE. It can burn 1x, 2x, and 4x. Time to find out if burning at 1x really has any benefit for PS1. That aside, I can now compile UnitROM8 AND burn the CD from this machine. So I can't wait to tinker with it once the source code is...

Re: UniROM 8 (2nd beta's released!)

lol I suppose if I was really desperate I could look at the rom in a hex editor (assuming your hex editor supports that. :P ) and just "type it out" into a hex editor on my PC. With the rom being only 128kb, I could maybe spend a good few hours doing that if I really wanted to. lol I might...

Re: UniROM 8 (2nd beta's released!)

Oh I see so exit is tied to Triangle. Cool. The LPT cable method. So you say I could use that, just not with Unirom v8? I could flash v6 to the cart then use an old PC with the right software? What about the cable? I have 2 types of cables. I have a couple cables. Both of which I think are of same t...

Re: UniROM 8.0.b1 Released!

Ok noticed the new build go up on Github. (I guess you haven't posted it here yet because the site was acting up earlier today) Tested it. It flashes and boots on my CodeCard fine. Though the switch doesn't seem to do anything for me. :( As for Fastboot. Not sure how to trigger that? L1 doesn't do a...

Re: UniROM 8.0.b1 Released!

Oh neat. This thing looks ancient. Mostly 16 bit stuff. None of which will run on my Windows 7 machine since it's 64 bit. But hey I got a Compaq Presario 4112 with Windows 95 setup behind me that will be the perfect platform for this. Already got this burned to a CD. So I'll play with this on that m...

Re: UniROM 8.0.b1 Released!

Good to know there will still be an option if the switch doesn't work out. As for the change in FindSequence, yeah the rewrite to avoid the unreachable code doesn't' really change the function in any meaningful way. So yeah meant that more as a suggestion. And yeah all I did was add some new lines t...

Re: UniROM 8.0.b1 Released!

Oh super cool. If the demo disc doesn't work it the switch being usable for booting stock will be super helpful as I don't want wear out the cheap connector on the cart constantly pulling it out/plugging back in. The switch being on or off doesn't matter. I haven't really bothered to memorize which ...

Re: UniROM 8.0.b1 Released!

Just tested my "Picks" demo disc. (SPUS-94951). It doesn't seem to boot with 8.0.b1. black screens and never boots. I noticed this demo disc doesn't play the intro/press start screen if you use the reset button on the console after having it boot to the game selection menu. So it's keeping...

Re: UniROM 8.0.b1 Released!

Nice looking forward to the next release. Good to know it's able to read the switch position at least when this is open sourced I plan have the switch toggle between going direct to vanilla boot splash sequence or booting to the menu. (unless you get settings saving support then maybe that could be ...

Re: UniROM 8.0.b1 Released!

Yeah OHM readings from one drive wouldn't really be applicable to another since each laser assembly will have variations in them from the factory. I was just stating what appeared to be the average anyways. It's still important to get a starting reading with a multi-meter before adjusting a drive an...

Re: UniROM 8.0.b1 Released!

Got lucky and got some money early. Got more CD-Rs and will get some super good ones off eBay too for the long haul. Ready to test new versions of UniRom when they come out. Re: UniROM 8.0.b1 Released!

Yeah it's the pot mounted to the ribbon cable. it's right up top on the side of the main drive chassis (at least on the units used for the 7501. Took me a bit to figure it out as it turned out I was turning it in the wrong direction. I used multimeter to get the resistance values of the two lower pi...
