Newroze first release

Hi all, Everyone inevitably remembers how you could boot a Yaroze disc and debug your code. However, that software is very ancient by today's standards. Accordingly, I set out to develop a new boot disc that allow you to connect with GDB and debug your code on retail hardware. Hopefully this can low...

GDB boot disc

Hi all,

Currently at alpha stage, but already working.
I have been developing a GDB boot disc that allows you to debug code on real hardware.
Basically what the classical Yaroze boot disc was doing.

Re: Sony DTL-H2000 Troubleshooting, Info, Setup, Parts & Help

After having received a new fuse, I brought it to the local repair shop.
I can say with great pleasure, that my board works again, after replacing the fuse.
Phew, thank God, that would have been a real big shame.

Re: LITELOAD - Yet another PS1 serial loader

Thanks for your contributions!
Once I am done with work, I am going to test your software.
I hope I can assist you in expanding the PSn00b debugger to the Mac (or Linux) platform.
I really had an idea of developing a similar piece of software, so that people without dev kits could adequately debug.

Re: Sony DTL-H2000 Troubleshooting, Info, Setup, Parts & Help

A blown fuse will have no resistance value whatsoever. If you lifted the card whilst it was powered on, you probably crossed the 5V or 12V rail with the ground and fried it. From your meters reading of '1' though that sounds as if it is blown. What I would do is use the diode mode instead to make s...

Re: MKPSXISO - A PlayStation ISO Maker to Replace BUILDCD

Got to hand it to you guys, a very nice application! I have been able to use it in conjunction with Visual Code build tasks, so that I can automatically generate a CD-image, and then run it right into an emulator. I do have to report that I am using a Mac, and that there was actually a conditional s...

Re: New open-source apps to upload PSX-EXE and external data

On the PC side, I really don't understand why the app is using 40 Mbytes of DLL just for this little tiny program .... Win32 API is really simple to use, why using QT ? or at least you could use just a CLI interface and would take only a few Kbytes... Qt ensures easy portability between platforms (...

Re: Sony DTL-H2000 Troubleshooting, Info, Setup, Parts & Help

Oke, bought a multimeter, and measured the two fuses on the board that has the controller cable hookups. I noted with fuse 700 a low resistance, while fuse 701 notes a 1 resistance value. By God, I hope it is just this fuse that is blown, and I can replace it (spare part is already ordered). (I thin...

Re: Sony DTL-H2000 Troubleshooting, Info, Setup, Parts & Help

While the pc was on, I tried to push down on the serial cable I had just made (for the controller). This push removed my second DTLH card. Now, I cannot connect to target anymore. What a tragedy... I might also suspect the fact that my self-made controller cable might have blown stuff up. In other w...

Re: Sony playstation Classic aka mini

But shame the USB controllers don't work on PC, 'unable to enumerate USB device' To be honest, I don't care about the device itself (lackluster emulator). However, the controllers being USB did entice me to buy, since I could potentially write a driver and use it in my Mac build pipeline (de...

Re: VAG Example (VAG DEMO)

You know, I had thought of the possibility of corrupt SDK Vag files, and therefore tried to convert a .wav file I had to .Vag with the Vagedit tool. However, that also did not work. Anyhow, after your comment I gave it another go with different .wav files, and, what do you know: it worked. Finally! ...

Re: VAG Example (VAG DEMO)

First of all, Shadow, thanks for the example. I only have one question about the sample: I can only seem to make it work with a limited amount of files. I do alter the VAG_DATA_SIZE according to the .vag file in question; however, I just cannot hear anything. The included pedobear.vag file works. Ho...

What a beauty that junction box! Hopefully I can manufacture something similar in the future. Oh, I see what you mean now. I thought you needed to make that PCB with the two DB-9 headers on it. Haha. I'm actually not sure if they are the same, but my guess would have to be yes because it means devel...

Re: Sony DTL-H2000 Troubleshooting, Info, Setup, Parts & Help

I can at least answer this from my own experience. What I did, with my very first soldering attempt in life, is rip out a playstation 2 slim board from its case, and then just solder wires under the controller ports, through their pinouts, to a simple DB9 connector. It is not extremely elegant, but ...

Re: A tale of two TIMS

LameGuy64, thanks for your very helpful reply. Immediately when I read this after waking up, I directly ran before going to work to the P3 machine to see whether it was such a rookie mistake. Alas, I discovered that I did indeed separate the sprites properly, and it was not a case of overlapping tex...

A tale of two TIMS

Hi guys, I have some questions. I am currently loading two TIMS into memory. The first TIM is loaded at 0x80180000 and the second one is loaded at (0x80180000 + the file length in bytes of the first TIM). When I initialise both TIMS (set PolyFT4, tpage, and clut) and then add them to the OT, I only ...

Re: Tilemap best practices

Guys, while we are on the topic of efficient coding. We can agree, when it is properly written, there are definitely occasions when Assembly code would trump higher level C code in speed. However, to what extent, I mean performance wise, does it matter whether you are coding in C or C++ for the Play...

[WTB] DTL-H2010 or DTL-H2510

Dear all,

In order to complete my development setup, I am still on the lookout for a DTL-H2010 or DTL-H2510 cd-rom drive.
If anyone has this item and are willing to part with it, we can negotiate a price.

Greetings,

Joseph

If it isn't the man himself!
Many thanks for your tutorial video's, they really help me find my way through setting up a dev kit.
Thanks for your answer. I really hope those videos get out, since, in the end, the whole fun of retro development is being forced to develop as efficiently as possible.

Tilemap best practices

Dear everyone, Happy to join this forum. I have had the great fortune to come across a DTL-H2000, and have thanks to lameguy64's video's and the guide on this website, a working setup running (had to make the custom video connector and controller connector). This has been a real childhood dream come...
