PS1 SCPH-5552 failing to boot

My trusty PS1 from 1998 seems to have kicked the bucket. Up until now it was reading game discs with the occasional slow down and message on the screen about not being able to read from game disc (there was also the audible whirring sound when the disc was spinning). So, I cleaned the laser and open...

Re: UniROM V6 - New stuff and things.

Issue: Unirom + Caetla combo on a standard xplorer with switch set to 'on' position = Caetla does not recognise the cdr as a game so you cannot start it at all. It just hangs on the loading screen when you try. Explanation: With some testing i found that for some reason from cold boot caetla will de...

Re: UniROM V6 - New stuff and things.

That's the same Xplorer I used and it worked after a few times of trying. I have the same packaging with the Tekken 3 sticker on the front too ;) . Like my steps show, you still need a way to boot the xflash cdr, like a modchip or cartridge that allows for swapping backups. I don't really like to 'h...

Re: MCLaunch 1.0 - Memory Card PS-X EXE launcher

If someone manages to get this running on a ps2 could it potentially be used as part of a softmod to get ps1 games running from usb? For e.g having a ps1 mem card in a ps2 with a modified save that is in fact a game id executable that points to the real game image file on usb. Is such a thing techni...

Re: Question about rare Dual Analog-controller

I remember back in the day reading a magazine that claimed that the Japanese Dual Analog controllers (the only ones that had the rumble motors) were either causing damage to the other components in the controller or the console itself. It was a long time ago, but perhaps it was in the news section o...

Re: UniROM V6 - New stuff and things.

Ok here is a sample I recorded using my tablet. I was holding it directly over the ps1 when I turned it on, went to unirom and started Valkyrie Profile 1. I then paused the recording, went between rooms in the game so you can hear the volume of the read/seek sounds (it is not making that sound conti...

Re: UniROM V6 - New stuff and things.

I just wanted to post a little update of my experience in case anyone finds it helpful. I finally managed to get hold of another Xplorer to flash. Previously I had a Game Hunter (one that allows booting of backups) but it kept saying unknown rom with the X-flash CD. Initially the Xplorer was saying ...

Re: UniROM V6 - New stuff and things.

I see. Thanks for clearing that up. Regarding compatibility, I'm not that experienced with emulators but would it be possible to emulate a cheat cartridge flashed with unirom to test our backup .bin files without having to burn cdr? It would save on discs.

Re: UniROM 0.44 - Bugfixes, woo!

things Hah wow, SOTN lead me on some wild goose chase... I dunno what it is about this game in particular, caetla wouldn't boot it reliably, my code wouldn't boot it at all and launching the .EXE directly and would sometimes crash on a blank screen and always at the loading screen. I haven't really...

Re: UniROM 0.44 - Bugfixes, woo!

Stuff doesn't boot. The boot code's just not very good. :D Tbh it wasn't really for playing games, and boots any homebrew I've thrown at it ... but it is distressing to know that SOTN doesn't play :\ Good news though, I've been doing a bit of poking and prodding around in the BIOS and I've had a fe...

Re: Strange Game Hunter cartridge

Thanks both of you. I had no idea there was firmware for these cheat devices that can boot imports/copies without swapping. Once a compatible cartridge is flashed with unirom it's as simple as starting with the copy in the disc tray and the cheat cartridge switched on? No ToC problems or the lid but...

Re: Strange Game Hunter cartridge

Good info, thanks. I was looking into these carts because I don't think I have a good way to flash my Xploder and didn't really want to because it's my only one at the moment. I have no old port on the computer and don't have the right cable either. 3- It's not writable, so boot up with black disk i...

Strange Game Hunter cartridge

I was wondering whether anyone has any info on this particular Game Hunter cartridge? It is not like the others you see on the net. It doesn't say 'CD version' on the label. It says 'Gameland' from what I can see. Sorry for the image quality, it's the best i could find. Basically, I need to know whe...
