Re: Crash Team Racing - HOWL data extraction/modding

Mods please excuse me for double posting:

This research is going very well in fact, I've successfully ripped a track out of CTR!

Here's a test link of that same track I've showed above! :D

Time to polish things up and get this WORKING!

Crash Team Racing - HOWL data extraction/modding

Hello, I just want to share what I've been able to do with the HOWL file format used in CTR. I've created a tool that can currently extract the sequence packs (working on getting the other stuff done such as sample pack extraction) HowlDataExtractor on GitHub I've also figured out some of the format...

Re: Any good tools to edit VABs and loop VAGs?

Yep, I'm very well aware of that fact as I've been converting all sorts of music formats from and to MIDI and playing them on all sorts of hardware for ages now. All of the data is technically translatable from one to another very easily through MIDI. (and besides aren't SEQ files / SQ's on PS2 esse...

Re: Any good tools to edit VABs and loop VAGs?

Hm interesting, will check it out! However my goal was to essentially hack the MIDI playback in games, like the music in Crash Bandicoot or Yu-Gi-Oh and similar so I was wondering if there are any good tools to allow me to do good VAB editing. I'd love to be able to import the sounds that go alongsi...

Any good tools to edit VABs and loop VAGs?

First off I'm sorry for being a friggin leech (I haven't logged in since January of 2016!), I wasn't very interested in PS1 modding and got myself busy with Need for Speed. Anyhow, I've been playing around with some music on the PS1 and I decided a nice test would be to put some music for the Ninten...

Re: Lite-On laser assembly compatible with PS1?!

If I had actually tried, I would've probably even gotten the diode to light up lol All I wanted to know why this actually worked. I was only goofing around when I plugged this thing in, really. As a matter of fact, what I'll do is that I'll try to compare the original to this one because who knows, ...

Re: Lite-On laser assembly compatible with PS1?!

Literally absolutely nothing other than jamming the ribbon into the connector. It's so stupid it hurts. From the images you can tell not even all of the pins are connected. Right now, it thinks the laser is at the starting position (like as if the sensor was pressed, maybe that's why BIOS waits?). S...

Re: Lite-On laser assembly compatible with PS1?!

I just tested it out again, PS1 does actually wait for a response (BIOS screen is a little longer). So what would go into this then? Would simply hooking up the diode do the trick just for the laser? I don't know how exactly the CD drive in PS1 works exactly. (how data lines are hooked up, if it's a...

Lite-On laser assembly compatible with PS1?!

As to why this was done, it is a long story, but I decided to plug in a laser assembly from an old Lite-On LTN-362 CD-ROM drive (Nov '98!) into a spare SCPH-9002 (PU-23) as much as it could fit in from the pin 16 side (ribbon has one extra pin) and it actually worked somewhat! The laser diode didn't...
